Default 2011 rubicon flat fenders

I just bought a 2011 2 door rubicon. I want to get some flat fenders, 35's etc. Looking in the wheel wells it seem as if they have added some sort of extra plastic splash guards in the rear wheel wells. does anyone know if this is something new? I am thinking that it will require a lot of plastic trimming to make the bushwacker flat flares fit and not look stupid. Any help would be great.

as mentioned, i think you're just looking at the liner that has always been there. it will require a lot of trimming but, this is covered in the bushwacker instructions:

As an alternative, consider trimming your factory fenders and putting the ~$400 towards other mods. It's really VERY simple and doesn't take long... and if you are considering installing the bushwackers, it might even be less work than removal/reinstall.

Example:

EDIT: I also removed all my splash guards when I trimmed.

What about rocks and gravel hitting the body when you take out them splash guards? I guess it can chip the paint and be starting points for corrosion. I also guess you get alot of noise into the cabin from small rokcs hitting the metal and not the protective plastic.

yes, this is true but, it's also true of any tire that extends past the fenders. i guess here in socal, it's not something we really think about too much.

Also the inner trim keeps a lot of mud out as well

I haven't really noticed a difference in noise personally, but yeah the corrosion concern is legit. Most ppl bedline the area as an alternative (for the rear).

Bushwacker flat flares let you keep the stock fender liner. It is just cut down even with the sheet metal before installing the the flares.
