2012 jk cat back options

So my dad just bought a 2012 unlimited rubicon AEV edition, beautiful rig(too pretty in my opinion). he wants to upgrade his exhaust amongst other things but he isnt sure which options are going to provide not only the performance upgrade but a decent audible note.

some names that have been thrown around are gibson, magna flow, and borla.

any input you guys have im sure he would appreciate the advise.

Banks monster / afe / flowmaster / mbrp just to name a few. From what ive seen all of them produce minimal results on a stock vehicle. Most just seem to choose what they want based on clerance and sound.

dynomax is another good choice and has a 90 day return policy if you are not happy with it

I have their rockcrawler system for added clearance but have the exhaust exit at the rear bumper rather than before the axle due to my states inspection laws

Exhaust mod is not going to provide any performance on a 3.6.

Anyone who tells you otherwise is kidding themselves and you. The sound is another story. I don't have it, but a cheap way to get a hood growl is the American Outlaw system.

Personally I think exhaust mods are a waste of time on late model vehicles that are not :

1 - a V-8
2- forced induction

Have you heard anything about combining a CAI and cat back exhaust? Just curious. I have a CAI and I just noticed this nice rebate going right now with Dynomax and I'm thinking I might not pass it up.

Agian from what ive seen from many posts / vids and the few data sheets i can find on them you only gain a few %'s even with the combination of cai and catback. Many have noted a small increase in accel. Even on my own jeep with the volant cai it feels like there is a bit more pep but no real over all hp gains. Dont have the catback yet so i dont have first hand info on the combination yet.

I also feel like it accelerates a little smoother. Wonder if I'm just pushing the gas a little more to hear the noise from the CAI.

I have the Dynomax Rock crawler. Mine is an 3.8 but I think it would be similar on the 3.6. It does hang down a little and there are some posts of people banging them up. I don't really care about the performance, I like the sound of it. It was pretty cheap and it does cut down a little bit of weight to counteract my heavy Nitto's.

I didn't see any performance improvement when I installed my AFE Hi-Tuck cat back exhaust on my 2012 JKU, but I wasn't looking for hp/tq. I wanted to get the large trash can sized stock muffler removed for better ground clearance. The added bonus is that my cat back will help the engine breath better if I decide to add a supercharger down the road.
