Default 285/75/17 installed: Seems to wander now!

I just put on my 285/75/16 tires and it feels a bit all over the place in the front end now. Is it me or is it the tires? What is the first and best change I can make in the front end to correct it if it's not in my head? Keeping the cost low.

What air pressure are you running? Try 30 psi.

I agree with making sure that your air pressure i around 30 psi.

Also, did you align after lifting (if applicable)? Any other suspension mods?

I will give it a shot. They are at 35 now. I think they wanted them at 35 to help with the tire wear.

I take it you weren't previously running this size tire?

Try re-centering your steering wheel.

what size tire did you have before? some ppl don't realize that the taller sidewall you have, the more your Jeep will roll around on top of those tires due to sidewall flex. also, if you went from say, the SR-A's, which are a highway tire, to something with a more aggressive tread, the tread itself will have more flex to it. low profile, narrowly spaced tread pattern tires don't move around much. high sidewall, high-void tread pattern tires simply move around more, and feel a little more squirrely. don't panic, your contact patch isn't moving around, it's the tire above that contact patch rolling around.

Start with the pressure first.. costs little to nothing...
No offense taken

My thinking was that if he had originally had the stock X tires, these new ones are over 3 inches taller. If we recommend people who install leveling kits to recenter, this is no different.

Additionally, my thinking was that if the OP is anything like myself, following a mod I hyper-analyze my Jeep's behavior. Having an off-center steering wheel on a heavily crowned road can lead you to feel like you are fighting against your Jeep to keep it straight.

I whole heartedly agree that 35 psi is too much, and I'd certainly fix that first. I was just trying to give the OP more suggestions.

35 PSI is to much for a 285. when I had my 285's every time I had it serviced they would put 35 PSI because that's what the sticker on the door says. I think it may be so they don't get sued or something. An OEM thing. When I ran mine at 35 PSI it was a little squirmy. Try 28 to 30 PSI. It should feel much better.
