I will never turn my eyes on a possible improvement with fuel mileage. Thanks
Dinky Dau, I am a disabled vet 1982-85. I just changed the oil this am and went around the block (30 miles) and managed 22.3 mpg with 4 stop and back up to 60mph. Here are some pictures of the culprit that is screwing up the 3.8L. This mod does have some risk. I’ve logged over 11,000 miles on the mod. I switched to premium fuel (91 octane).

5/16 inch socket or wrench. 2 small screws not very tight.

There is around rubber gasket under piece of wood holding up pipe.

I used a medium sized bolt cutter to crimp end of pipe. The pipe has a heavy wall because of heat from exhaust gases.

Make sure no loose pieces of metal are left that may go into engine. My vehicle may or may not pass an emissions test. It has 91,000 miles on it so I don’t care.

I have a 2010 Jeep Wrangler with the 3.8 engine. My was running so poorly as I don't drive it very often. I chipped mine with Supper Chips and ran a bunch of fuel injector cleaner through the engine and now it runs well.

If you want to be surprised. Just take off the intake tube at the throttle body and push the throttle plate open. On the backside of the butterfly it's a black tarry mess from all the exhaust gases being pumped into the engine.
