Default 35s on a Dana 30 axle...too much?

I will be putting 35s on my JK...(when I get it!) Would I be fine putting the 35s on the Sahara model with the Dana 30 front axle? I have been going back and forth in my head on whether I should just spend the money for the Rubicon (and wait for mods later...when I can afford it) or if I should get the Sahara and use the saved money to get a nice Long Arm system. Any suggestions?

If you are on a budget, get the X. If not, get a Rubi with fewer options. To me the Sahara is just paying for options I will either remove, not use, or destroy.

I ran 35's locked on my D30 with my TJ. Never a problem. The HP 30 is stronger than the TJ LP 30, so I see no problem. I don't know the reasons for some broken u joints that have been reported but I would most likely think it was driver error and not a problem with all JK 30 u joints. I am currently running 35's with my JK and haven't had a problem.

I know there is a guy on here...(erockhopper I think) who is running 37s on his Rescue Green Sahara. Do you plan on upgrading your axle or do you think the Dana 30 is strong enough?

I don't plan...yet...to do any ridiculous rock crawling. I just want a nice looking, but really well performing rig. I really love the Long Arm systems especially because I have heard they are so smooth on road and so awesome off-road. But they are soooo expensive. That's why I am thinking of getting a Jeep Green Sahara and putting the saved couple thousand dollars into a Long Arm kit. Can't decide.

i got 37s on my X unlimited. I also plan on going to rausch creek this weekend. I really think most of it depends on how you drive it. i dont plan on doing anything to extreme so im pretty confident that my dana 30 will hold up just fine.

I'd put the money into a rubi before a long arm, the Dana 30 on my TJ held up to lots and lots of abuse with 33s and 35s, but none the less, i love my rubi, and long arms are great, but if you're not planning on wheeling too serious, you wouldn't need a long arm, a rubi with 35's however would get you anywhere you want to go thats not too serious and you wouldn't have to worry bout breaking u-joints. just my .02

So what lift would be best suspension then? I really want the smoothest possible (closest to factory feel) ride with 35s and still very good off-road. Am I wrong to think that Long Arm systems would be the best for this because they help keep geometry the closest to stock? I am kind of a rookie when it comes to lifts. I just get everything from what I've heard from others, not from first hand experience.

I want to be able to drive my Jeep at 75 mph (obviously 4.88 gears would be needed) without it feeling dangerous. I've driven and been a passenger in a couple that I felt like the thing would flip at any moment!

Mel from Offroad Evolution has had 37's on his JK since 9/06. The housing is as straight as an arrow.

He has run many hardcore trails including The Hammers in JV. He has not broken anything as of today.

Upgrades he has done are our 5.13 gears, which got it back to stock performance, and that's it. He will be the first with our new chromo axles and then Mel will be golden.

Don't sweat it . It is a reverse rotation, so the ring gear is strong, and the tubes are thicker than the traditional 30.

Good luck,

Mike

Superior,
I to have 35s on the Dana 30 hp, will the chromo axle be available in a super 30 kit like on the TJ, or is it not needed? I have a 6sp w/ 4:10s and do not plan on regearing, but do want to upgrade the axles.

I just want to make certain I got this correct:
Mel is doing hard core offroading, with 37s on an X - D30 front unmodified except for gears!???
