Default 4 inch or 6 inch Full Traction long arm lift with 35 inch tires

Have the spousal unit approval (okay she did say she does NOT want to know how much it is costing) to go to a long arm lift kit, and am pretty set at this point with going with a Full Traction kit.

Now the question arises....4 inch or 6 inch? I know the 4 inch will clear the 35" BFG MT KM2s I have with no problem...but since there is not any additional cost to go up to the 6 inch over the 4 inch....do I just go straight to the 6 inch? Will the 35s look ridiculously small with a 6 inch?

My tires are new enough at this point that I would not likely go to 37s any time soon.

I am planning on re-gearing to 5.13 as well, so would be geared to the point of being able to run 37s down the road should I choose to go that route.

So JK'rs, what is your opinion? Stay with the 4 inch, or go with the 6 inch from the start?

I voted for 4"

I have a 4" lift (or slightly more) with 37s

I dont believe 35s will look alright with a 6" lift, say minivan tires?

Go with the 6" lift if you think you'll change your mind and stick 37s under your JK

I'm currently installing the 4" FT LA and I'm running 35 KM2s. I'll take some pics when complete, hopefully this weekend. If you don't have 35s now, I'd say go straight to 37s. As far as 4" or 6", it depends on what kind of trails you do? If you're mudding, I'd say 6", but if you're doing a lot of off camber technical stuff, 4".

I said 4", i got to go wheeling with a guy who just installed the 4" and 35's. The setup looked great and had PLENTY of room for the 35's and probably 37's too. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I have the 4" with 37" KM2's. I RARELY have any issue with rubbing, but I will have added several hundred pounds to my Jeep by the time I'm done with the front bumper, winch, sport cage, and under armor, in addeition to the other heavy things (rear bumper and skidders)

I will upgrade to the 6" kit at some point, maybe this spring or summer. Finally adding the front bumper and winch will force the issue more.

I love the 4" with 37's. It looks and drives great. But if you're going to bulk up your JK, and you're gonna go 37 anyway, start with the 6" and 37's!!

Thanks for the votes so far.

My initial thought was to stay with the 4 inch...I think most of any of the trails around the midwest here would be more obstacle/rock more so than deep mud for the large part, so that seems to lend credence to staying with the 4inch.

I know WOL has this kit on an unlimited, but with all of the extras he has on his Jeep, not sure it is a good indication anymore of exactly how just the stock 4" long arm kit would look. (I only wish I could invest that much into mine).

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't making a mistake in that thinking....especially with the cost at this point being no more (was planning on replacing the drive shafts now too).

I have the 6" with 37s and could easily go to 40s. For the 35s you are going to run I would say go with the 4". I think 35s look good and perform great with a 4" lift.

The 4" kit for 35" tires is perfect. Just beware that jeeps change our way of thinking. I originally started w/a 4 1/2" kit and 37" tires my wife thought they were giant. Last trip out she told me that I need 40"s. It is always better to build it right the first time. Either way you will love it.

I have a FT 4" long arm on our 2 door and it rides awesome and 35's are perfect for the that size lift.

6" is for 38-40s. There are a couple AZ guys here running 40s on a 6" long arm.

4" with 37s is perfect with trimmed or flat flares.

I have been comsidering a 3" long arm with my 37s and flat flares, but I am a low COG proponent because I drive mine on the freeway and offroad in the rocks--including off camber situations. I love the stability.

35s with stock flares...definitely don't go taller than 4".
You will do lots of cutting with 37's on the 4" to fit. But yes I agree it will work.
