AEV Pintler Wheels - Cracking
Kojack,
I guess I look at this problem differently.
The wheels that have this problem were early manufactured wheels going back to 2007. As a customer of AEV, I have no worries with purchasing new wheels from them if I ever need to. I've spoken with AEV, and met with them in person as well. AEV is a stand-up company. They back their product and take care of their customers. Unless you are planning to buy a used set of AEV wheels, which could be 4 years old, and fall into the range of wheels that exhibit this problem, I haven't read of any (at least on the JK Forum) problems with newer wheels.
They have made things right by me for the Pintlers I have, and I have nothing negative to say about the company or their products.

in link to the aev thread, they say that the original owner of the wheels gets the warranty... i guess i can stop looking for a used set of pintlers.
I'm not saying anything about the company. I love their products and the look of the wheels. Are any of these wheels purchased after 07? Anyone who has a cracked wheel chime in here? I know they are a stand up company. However a stress fracture in a major component like a wheel scares me off from buying that product.
Ten years ago, a lot of wheels started to be manufactured in China. There were many casting issues. This applies to all type wheels from those for sports cars to Jeeps. The good news, you can buy an alloy wheel for $200 or under. The bad news, they didn't have their SH!T together at first which resulted in weak castings and fractures. These issues have been remedied with new plants being sourced by AEV and others. There really aren't any wheel manufacturers actually making wheels in the states anymore. The customer service is the difference maker as casting issues can arise from any manufacturer.
I've been looking at getting these wheels but now am a little concerned. Has AEV said what they are doing about the quality? They may be replacing them but wondering if they have done something to fix the issue itself.
Thanks!!
Thanks!!
Hi. Yes, they did change the way the wheels are cut. From what I understand, the first production wheels were cut differently than the wheels that they sell now. To the best of my knowledge, the casting problem does not exist in the new wheels - only the first production wheels from early 2007. I highly doubt that anyone would have "new" 2007 wheels on the shelf. I you are considering purchasing them, I'd say go for it.
