What's a good range for automatic transmission temperature with 35" tires and 5.13 gears? It's been in the hi 80s to low 90s around here an in stop and go traffic my super chip trail dash reads about 200 degrees.. is that normal?

Do you have a trans cooler? I have the Mopar cooler. 42rle transmission.

I have 4.10's and 35's and it is usually around 150-160. Maybe a tad higher. Today it was 110 and I drove for roughly 25min. Temp was about 180-185.

I used a point and shoot temp gun on the pan. Is accurate to within a few degrees. I compared it to my buddy's superchips reader and what it read.

If you have the pre-2012 automatic transmission, (42RLE), you need an aux transmission cooler if you haven't already added one.

Regarding the transmission temps...
200°F is getting a little high. In stop and go traffic, the torque converter is generating a lot of heat due to being unlocked most of the time. Additionally, any cooling the inadequate OEM cooler affords only happens when the engine's fan comes on. The OEM cooler is too small, and is not in the direct air flow through the grill.
An additional cooler will take better advantage of the air that passes through the grill.

Turning off overdrive will allow the torque converter to lock more often in city traffic, thereby reducing heat generation.

Mine runs in the 90°F to 130°F range all year 'round. However, I have an aux cooler and an engine driven fan.

I've got a 2011, so yes the 42rle. Looks like I'm adding a transmission cooler to my list. What are most folks running?

90-130 all year round? That's low! Where do you live?

Mine will be in the 140-150 range during winter months. So that's about 55-60 during the day in California.

I live in Maine. It can be high 90s in the summer, and -20s in the winter.

Mine normally runs 120*-160* and that behind a supercharger. On long steep grades it will jump to 200+ if it shifting a lot.

150 all day long on pavement. On logging roads in high on steep grades it will creap up to 185 but no higher.

08 on 37's with 5.13s and a B&M Cooler, and no fender liners.

Flushing my rad with a hose and washing the fins made a huge difference in temps and I clean the fins from the back every month or so to get mud and dust out.

'17 jk 3.21 gears and 29" tires pulling 1800lbs of trailer and fescue, 27 miles combination of highway and curvy/hilly secondary roads, outside air temp in low 90's........Trans shows in the low 160's

I have used used Ford coolers that I know are clean. If you want new get a Tru cool max long it has 40k btu capacity almost 2x's the big B&W
