Australian JK Help

G'day, Vegemite and Foster's to you.:yup:

I just returned from my dealer looking for the cover/plate that goes over the hole where the U.S. license plate belongs. I moved mine because I thought it was a stupid place to be after I "trail removed" it. It's the little black plate that sits a bit underneath the left hand rear light. The parts guy here says it's only available overseas. Do any of you down-under type blokes live close enough to a dealership to order me one? I'd surely make it worth your while  to ship it over here to the U.S.

(It's that little black plate sitting about half way between the rear lights and the bumper lights.

Thanks to any for your help.

seer1 08-08-2007 06:35 PM

Bump. Is it morning down there yet?

seer1 08-08-2007 08:21 PM

Goin' to bed, thought I'd bump this once more.

BLKRUBI 08-09-2007 01:52 AM

If anyone's out there that would be willing to do this, I would like one also.

seer1 08-09-2007 07:53 PM

I dunno BLKRUBI, maybe nobody down there likes us.:tearsdrip:

jkrenegade 08-09-2007 08:22 PM

gday seer1 & blkrubi,

i rang my dealer to see if i could get some info for you price part number etc. they didnt have a price or stock of them since they come into Aus already fitted. they are going to do some more looking for me so i will get you an answer asap.

cheers

seer1 08-09-2007 08:28 PM

 to you as well. Thanks for the call. We'll be looking forward to their answer.

BTW, if it does work out, think you can sneak in some Vegemite too? I know, there's something wrong with me...

dougolupski 08-09-2007 09:12 PM

I'm in and will pay double price for your time and effort. I would much rather have the plate to cover the hole, it looks so much cleaner.

daveaus 08-09-2007 09:23 PM

Since you like vegimite if jkrenegade can't help you I will give my dealer a call.

talondriver9382 08-10-2007 05:58 AM

Red 2's in!

G'day!

If you gents have any success locating that part I'd also like one. Of course willing to pay a premium and wondering if I could get some REAL Aussie beer to accompany it!

Cheers mates!

BLKRUBI 08-10-2007 11:01 AM

Hey Seer, guess what I found. I had to cover for my buddy (the Chrysler Parts manager at our dealership) for a few minutes today, so I got into the parts catalog, and guess what I looked up....the part number for the tag hole cover. I don't know who you talked to, but they must not know squat. I managed to find it the part number in Chryslers' parts catalog, and I'm the Honda parts manager. Anyway, it is available and the part number is 55397112AA. Mine will be here Tuesday.

HappyCurmudgeon 08-10-2007 11:14 AM

Yup there it is, Plug, Rear Fascia $5.50

Thanks for the P/N!

seer1 08-10-2007 11:33 AM

BLKRUBI, you are the man! The guy I talked to pulled up his computer and all we saw was license plate bracket stuff. Of course if I'd asked for the plug for the rear fascia well... Who comes up with these names?

I was thinking of painting to match. When I worked parts you could either order the tube touch up paint, or spray can. Is the spray touch up paint still available these days? I'm asking in advance in case the parts guy gets lazy on me again.:nono:

seer1 08-10-2007 11:35 AM

Oh, about that Vegemite...

Yeah, I wouldn't call the corner of the tub the "rear fascia", but whatever. That's the part is in our facing PC (Atlanta), and they had 12 in stock. Now I've got to figure out how I'm going to mount my tag and a third brake light on my spare tire. I want/need to get rid of E.T. (aka the third brake light) on my tailgate. I've got plans for that metal plate that comes with the Mopar swing out tire carrier/bumper.

dougolupski 08-10-2007 11:46 AM

Thank you, thank you, thank you. You are the man.

BLKRUBI 08-15-2007 12:59 PM

Picked my cover up from the parts department the other day, now I'm fabbing a bracket and lighting.

Thanks for doing the Jeep thing. It's great to see folks from all over pulling together on stuff.

BTW, isn't $35 aus about $2.27 US?:rotflmao1:

Nope it's currently $27.53 and getting better :2thumbs:

(Hmmm, it's been about 20 - 25 years since the Au dollar was stronger than the US dollar :eek2: , will it happen again?)

BLKRUBI 08-18-2007 05:34 PM

Niiice!:2thumbs: Did you modify the stock bracket, or is that an after market I have yet to see? If stock then where did you find the cool LED's? I feel a write up request coming on, unless you've done that already and somehow I missed it.

Again, very niiiice!:yup:

Thanks, I actually trimmed up the stock bracket and mounted it to some bar aluminum that I fabricated a bracket out of. That bracket runs through the center of the spare wheel and mounts to the tire carrier. That took care of the tag light. Then, I found an L.E.D. at Advance for $10 mounted it and re-ran the wiring in the loom that I had already ran for the tag light, easy. I could do a quick write up with some pics( I'll have to snag some more)

Thanks for the part number. :yup: I picked mine up today and relocated my license plate using Rock hard 4x4's mount and ORO's license plate LED lights.

I really, really wanted the license plate mount and that's what I modeled my own after, but in the end, I just couldn't fork out $40 for that ($80 for the mount/light assembly) for something I could make for next to nothing.
