Default Axe/Hub Question for DIYers

Axle/Hub

Sometime this spring I will change out my gears (D44 rear/D30 front) and want to change out bolt patterns from 5 x 5 to 5 x 5.5 at the same time. I am completely solid on the D44 but I am not completely clear on what I can do for the D30. I was not successful in searching the forum for answers so here are my questions:

1. Can I switch out a Hub assembly from an '06 D30 to a '10 D30? It seems like it COULD be seamless.
2. Are there any manufacturers that make Hub assembly's that easily switch out/change bolt patterns?
3. Do you have any links for this topic previously discussed somewhere on the forum?

Thanks, in advance.

if all you want is to run a different bolt pattern, maybe you should just consider running wheel adapters that convert your bolt pattern.

Thanks, for the reply -

I had considered that, but the addition of a spacer would not work for my particular wheel set-up. I will be using a 16 x 10" wheel w/ 4" backspacing/-38mm offset. Spacers that convert bolt patterns, at least what I have found, are generally 1.5" or more so I really can't go that route.

Found an answer:

No. The '06 Hub assembly is a 4.5 not a 5.5.

Crap.

Next question:

Would a machinist be able to change the pattern on the OEM Hub assembly to a 5.5" pattern?

A lot of after market axles have the pattern for both 5" and 5.5" already machined into the assembly.

I am considering Spyntec as well. I was looking for a DIY - more cost effective way, before I order something specific that I can't do in house (or with a relative/friend or two).
