Default Axle vent Question

I came across the writeup about the axle vent extension.
Question I have for those that have done it, Im thinking about doing it on my stock 09.
Is there any sort of filter that could be put into the open end after extending the vent hose?
I was thinking about running the hose into the tail light housing.
Any problems with running it there?
Thanks.

I just did this myself-ran the front diff tube up into engine compartment, and attached to the firewall, just under the hood. Ran the rear up into the right tail light housing.-all of this was done, AFTER I changed my diff covers from stock, to new R.R. indestructable diff covers.--after 2 weeks, no problems whatsoever.-I simply re-used the factory end vent caps, but ran all new lines. used hose clamps at both axle fittings to help ensure a tight hold.-not difficult. Good Luck!!

you overpaid, go to napa and spend $10 to make the same kit.

agreed - unless you are installing a snorkle and planning to do some seriously deep, up to your windshield water crossings, there is no need to extend your breathers to your air box. $10 spent at most at napa or the like is really all you need.

Here's a suggestion: Don't overfill your diffs. It's real easy to get the exact level. I've had my diff breather extensions for almost 2 years and no mess.

A simple rule to follow, especially if you are using aftermarket diff covers: Fill the diff to just above the bottom of the axle tube - no more! A quick check if you have a high fill hole is to take a zip tie and use it as a dip stick.

I'm by no means a Jeep expert, but after wheeling the flooded trails of Drummond Island, where water never went over my hood - except for splashes - I can honestly say that my entire engine was covered in mud. I even found a muddy water line in my air box, as did others in our convoy. After that trip, I'm shopping for snorkels! A breather tube kit that goes to a "sealed" airbox sounds great! The cost of that river raider kit vs. the cost of changing diff fluid more often (either by doing it yourself or at a shop) sounds like a deal.
