if you want it to stick out farther then you will want 4.5 to 3.5. a 5 in backspacing will probablly be about .5 in to 1 in out. 3.5 will be about 2 to 2.5 inches. but it depends on rim width and tire choice as well.

will the 5" back spacing work with the tires i currently have with no rubbing? I dont have a liftt. Will the tires i have right now and 35x12.5 both fit ok on an 8" rim?

Yes, a 5" backspace will be fine with your 32x10 tires. They will sit 1.25 inches further out.

For the 35x12.50's, this section of the faq would be a good place to start:
Q: What back spacing will I need on my wheels in order to clear 12.50 wide tires?
For the rim width, go to the manufacturers website and look at the specs for that particular tire. It will list a recommended rim width. (lots of people are running 12.50's on 8" wide rims. No problems)
