BFG M/T 33" on Jk unlimited - what tire pressure?
 

On 17" rims. What tire pressure do I need to run these? The place that installed them has them at a pressure higher than my tire pressure gauge will go (over 50 psi). I've read where most people are running their tires at anywhere from 25 psi to 30 psi. Does anyone know what it is supposed to be to get the best ride and life out of the tires? Mine is on the street most times. I use mine here and there off road for light to med. offroading.

i have a dr on 35s, 28 psi gives me the flatest footprint, nice ride and doesnt suck too much power

27 psi for me

10 psi off road

Hey shredX, how did you and everyone else arrive at that tire pressure? Especially considering that it is half of the maximum tire pressure allowed for the tire? I'm not trying to be a smarta**. I just sincerely don't understand. Did someone verify with the tire manufacturer? I have an email in to BFG customer service through their website so hopefully I'll get a definitive answer. I appreciate everyone's replies. Anyone else?

If you just search chalk you will find more then you ever wanted to know about getting a good tire pressure. This is one of the best explainations I found, looking quickly, by USMCDOC:

there is not "simple" math as there are too many variables in tire/belts/whatever. Do a "chalk test"

1 piece of chalk, the kiddy sidewalk kind works well
a tire pressure gauge
a big parking lot with no cars and a nice strait run of say 500 feet

Drive around a bit to get the tires nice and warm and flexible.
get to one end of parking lot
aim vehicle across with the wheels strait
rub chalk across the entire tread of all 4 tires in a nice width as so you can find it.
drive forward, NO STEERING, for 500' or so.
stop
look at the chalk.
You will notice (almost 100% of the time the first time out) that the "center of the tread will have no chalk and the outers will.
deflate 5-10 psi
repeat until almost all the tread is wearing evenly.

My 35's are running 28psi all the way around and are quite happy

I ran BFG's on a full size Blazer at .... I think it was 32, or maybe 34 lbs, the pressure your running a Jeep on them it must ride like its on cement tires!:eek2:

Thanks guys. I didn't know there was even such a thing as a chalk test so I didn't know to search for it. I will try that when I've got time. In the mean time it seems most everyone is running from 25-30 psi. I went ahead and set mine to 27-28 psi all around.

I see you already got your answer, but I did not want to leave you hanging.
I came up w/ 27 psi via someone else doing the chaulk test on my same tire and wheel set up. Go ahead and call me a mooch...I don't care.:crazyeyes:

I run my 315 75R's at 28psi the tires actually measure out at 34.6" dia. Seem to be wearing well.
