The main reason the spot welds in the tailgate break with heavier spares is the uneven stress on those welds that happens when the heavier spare causes the tailgate to flex. Hitting a pothole, for example, can cause uneven stress on the welds due to the direction of the impact. If a tailgate reinforcement doesn't prevent flex to eliminate uneven stress, over time it is likely that spot weld damage will be the result of carrying a heavier spare. I studied typical tailgate damage when I designed the tailgate reinforcement, and designed it to prevent tailgate flex and equalize the stress.

I am interested to see the rest of the system. Do you have pics you can share? I will keep an eye on this thread for when the rest will hit the market. Great job and I look forward to the whole system arriving at my door step.

I received mine last night. They are very sturdy and well made but I'll have to return them. They were loosely thrown into the box with no paper or bubble wrap. They had scrtaches on them from hitting into each other and the metal is exposed. I see these rusting pretty quickly in this condition.
