300m Vs. 4140 chromoly..... worth it?
So RCV now has a JK Rear D44 300M 32 spline Shafts https://www.northridge4x4.com/part/a...-300m-axle-set. These shafts are about $1800, where as you can buy a nice set of 4140 chromoly shafts for less than $400.. usually with a 10 year warranty. So here is my issue with this, if the shafts are too damn strong won't you just risk breaking your ring & pinion? And how much stronger can they possibly be.. i'm thinking you don't exactly want something unbreakable running on an 8.5" ring gear, just not worth the risk. It would be much better to just have your shaft break/bend and get it replaced under warranty. And $1800... i mean if you are rich then go for it.. but most of us aren't rich. Anyway.... Thoughts???????

IMO why would you put 32 spline shafts that cost two or three times more than CM in a D44 is beyond me.
Plus the flange will bend eventually if you wheel hard enough anyway.....waste of money. Stick with the stockers until you break one.
Oh just a FYI the rear gear diameter is 8.89 the front is 8.5

Yeah I get what you are thinking as I'm in the same boat..... moved up to 37's and want to upgrade the shafts.
I was going to do the same as you and still might but I have wheeled my Jeep pretty hard after the tire upgrade and haven't broke a shaft yet just a front DS
Don't know how you wheel so I really can't tell you you shouldn't go to CM shafts but heck I sure wouldn't spend that much cash for the 300's
I get the peace of mind deal but the more I go out on trail and not break it gets easier to just wheel it and upgrade if it you do.
Now having said that I will be back in Moab over the long Labor Day weekend so I will knock on wood
And yes these next gen rear D44's are as I like to say 8.9" but really are 8.89"
