Forget the Cam and go with a Super Charger!

If ya blow the engine , should be cheap to get a new one being it's a min-van engine.

Im not trying to play teacher, just wondering if anyone knew if any other jeeps came with a different cam with different specs. If so, i could hit up a junkyard and get the cam cheap and have some increase in power for very cheap.

EDIT: instead of paying my way to power with a SC or Hemi swap like everyone keeps suggesting.

not true just that theres no point in droping money into a mini van engine thats all, im not saying neglate your engine in there just no point in putting performance parts on it, u want engine performance buy a bigger engine worth modding. but if u wanna waste money on upgrading it then go for it, but dropping just a cam in it your not going to see any big increase in power, if u want to do that u might as well do headers and full exhaust to get noticable power

HP and torque are a product of total engine design. A very basic simple design in high torque engines is a longer stroke. Short stroke, large bore typically high HP low torque, again this is basic. Depending on the cam grind, valve sizes, exhaust/intake ports lots of mods can be done.

Boat engines are typically high torque.

Anyhow, this can go on and on, a rehash of total engine design but suffice it to say overhead cam engines can be just as torquey as any other design, other than diesels??

Heck going from 202-205 to 253 is a nice little jump Torque does not change much going from 245 to 261. Now i am thinking about it after my warranty is out. Numbers came from Allpar.com.

Just a thaught,
Kat
If I'm going to swap my 3.8 out it's not going to be for a 4.0 it's going to be for a 5.7 or 6.1 Hemi. Just don't see the reasoning behind going through the whole swaping mess unless you had a 4.0 laying around or got some sort of killer deal. The little increase just doesn't warrant the hassle for me. Why not a Supercharger?

Not bad. I could see the appeal of the Hemi or the 350. Personally I'd go with a 4 cylinder diesel. Decent gas mileage, great torque. I'm not trying to make my Jeep outrun a corvette. But I would challenge the Vette guy to a race across a high grass field with lots of ruts and bumps. lol

Dude getting a cam out of a junkyard motor isnt dropping money. I have an intake and exhaust, I spent zero on both of them. And your out of your fucking mind if you think exhaust and intak are gonna make a"big difference" or "noticable gains". The 3.8 is never gonna be a badass high horse motor, but if i can find cheap parts to make small power increases then why not? Every little bit helps on the trails.
