I am not saying you cant get ass loads of torque from an OHC. After all the big Cats, Detroits and MB are I6 with OHC's. But we arent running a 30k motor. Its a cheap v6, a cheap ohc v6 may be worse.

I agree with not going crazy with this engine as well. Its not exacty high performance. Might not be a good base to start with.
My wifes Aurora has a 3.5 V6 that cranks. Meets all the criteria needed, It's a northstar engine.

If you really want to make the V6 3.8 crank it is possible and you can get a hand ground cam to whatever specs you want. Whoever is slamming it because it is a mini-van engine hasn't a clue. Mini-van has nothing to do with it, and in fact might be a credit since I would assume it has a stronger bottom end to handle the typical overload of minivan users.

I haven't checked much into this engine since it pretty much does what I want it to at the moment. Maybe later I'll check it out, and maybe they will come out with something better.

Just learn to drive it in its power band and it should be ok. Maybe add a less restrictive exhaust that sounds decent, and enlarge to opening to the intake, and a decent power chip from someone who knows WTH they are talking about.

Im very happy with my jeep. If I wanted the I6 in a jeep I would have bought an older one. I might put lower gears in, then I would be extremly happy! The new jeep isnt perfect and it has flaws but it puts a smile on my face whenever I drive it. And thats all day everyday.

In my experience, a cam change would only be significantly beneficial if there is other work done, i.e. head work, intake manifold, intake ducting, tb , exhaust, computer tuning, etc.

And since this isn't a commonly modded engine, you'll be the guinea pig. A different cam doesn't necessarily be a better cam. You may end up w/ drivability problems you don't like, as well as emission problems. It may end up worse rather than better.

Not trying to discourage you, just thinking out loud.

Did you check Edelbrock? They used to make some stuff for the GM 3.8's.

If you are going to pull a cam from the junk yard, make sure you are looking at similar torque specs. Cams are heat treated to have a specific flex. If you get one that is too stiff or flexes too much, you will not get the performance gain you want because your timing will not ever align perfectly. So your leading pistons will be timed right and the trailing pistons will be off. This is a common mistake people make, worse yet, they don't relealize it. Sad but true.

Why do I know this... I did some work for Crane cam when i first got out of college.

i m sorry diesel, i don t mean to be a a$$ but you really need to sit down and look at the big picture. it probably isn t worth moding up the 3.8 but sit down and find something that will fit and is cheap to build. you could build a hefty 302 and still keep it to a couple g's. if i ever decide to go crazy with my jeep that is what i ll do. but i am happy with it the way it is...... for now!

here is a picture of my prostreet f-150. sorry no stang....
