Default catback vs. just muffler change?

I'd like a slightly deeper toner and better flow through. Why would I want a full catback system rather than just changing out the muffler to, say, a Magnaflow? I don't need to relocate the muffler since I'm not a hard-core offroader and there is no salt use on our roads. I believe the stock diameter is identical to the full system's.

Our local high performance exhaust shop in Denver recommends a "super turbo" by Dynomax - thoughts?

Your jeep has 4 catalytic converters.. 2 on each side. Loose the lower on each side.. It will help dramatically... I tried dynomax in the past never seem to last more than 6 months... Just my experiance..

1BadJK,

Did you do this? I searched around and couldn't find any details. I don't suppose you put it back on a dyno. Any difference in the sound?

Yeah, your's sounds awesome Will!

The stock pipe diameter is 2.5" and its stainless steel. The aftermarket systems are the same thing. They might give a slightly smoother bend over the axle and get rid of the "clearance divet". But I dont think you would get any more gains by using a cat back system. I have a Cooltech relocation kit on ours, magnaflow mufler, and Im happy with it.

Any pics of a before and after of the "missing" 2 converters?? Any problem with ditching them all? Will that upset the ECU?

There is a sensor between the two.. Therefore I only lost the lower two.. Made a huge difference on the highway and pulling a trailer.. A lot more get up and go when you need to pass... Deepened the sound a bit also.. Haven't dyno'd since... I will take some pics later..
