Default Cheap 37" tire option

so I've been doing a lot of searching for the cheapest way to get to a 37" tire. My most expensive part comes in my drivetrain improvements since I have the 'X'. But I did come up with something that seems fairly cheap...

ebay has military hummer tires for about $500 shipped (37x13x16.5). That is with 90% tread. Not too bad in my opinion. The only other thing to do is buy cheap steel wheels at 16.5"x9", and I've found those on Summitracing for $81 each. That puts me at less than $900 shipped for a pretty good set of offroad wheels/tires. I plan on keeping my 35" A/T's for street use, but before making this new purchase I was curious if anybody else had experience with buying used tires on Ebay (good or bad).

ebay always has the military tires on there...and sometimes even cheaper

Why do you have to have 37s? Sounds like you're going to throw money away just for a number on your sidewall.
What he said...I have 37's. expect to spend 1.5-2 times what you are thinking...sh1t just finds a way to need to be upgraded/fixed...I wish I would have gone with 35s... did I say that? yea I did.

Thanks for all the opinions guys....

as to why I'd want 37's in the first place....you're probably right, the bottom line is for the look of the ride...(less than 1% of the actual wheelers on here probably NEED 37's)...but I have come across some inclines and some rocks where a little more clearance would have been nice.

and for other modifications I would need....I have a guy installing 5.13's for me in a couple of weeks....I've already purchased the gears (months ago) and he's only charging me $450 for the install so that's not a problem for me. And I have 3/4" spacers on top of my springs so I'm really at about 4 3/4" of lift. I cut the rear seam ages ago when I went to 35"s on a 2.5" budget boost. I have kind of always planned on cutting my stock fenders if necessary, but just haven't gotten around to it....time always a premium for me...so to sum it up...I know that 37"s are not easy to do right....but when you want to do them you want to do them.

If you guys are against the military tires due to the BIAS ply then I understand that

Any other comments towards the tires themselves?

I personally think you need to trash the Hummer tire idea. They are archaic by any modern day tire standards. The design has not changed one iota since the H1 first came out in 1984. Let me say that again. 1984. Do you have any idea how much tire technology has changed since then? Keep in mind too, that in 1984, they were not using then modern tire technology to develop those tires. They were using bias ply design technology that was even at that time 40 plus years old. Those tires have not changed in design to this day. Cheap, cheap, cheap. That's the military way. No way brother. Not me. Not in a million years would I put those on my Jeep.
