Default Cooper STT Pro Winter Performance

I'm looking at the Cooper STT Pro as a replacement for my Duratracs on my JKUR. I currently have 315x12.50x17 load range D Duratracs. They are very good in packed snow/ice situations here in North Lake Tahoe, but not so good in the rocks since only 2 ply side walls. I'm thinking of the STT Pro in 37x12.5x17 in load range D. I want something that works in mud, rocks and snow. I like the more aggressive tread of the SST Pro v.s the S/T Maxx. I noticed that they seem to have some sipping and silica tread compound for grip. Is anyone running these tires in packed snow/ice conditions and if so, how do they handle?

Still a bit early around here for snow driving reports, just a light dusting up in the hills so far that didn't even qualify as 'snow'.

And just to have some veiwage in the thread...

Thanks for both replies. We've had a couple of storms here, but nothing serious yet. I really like the looks and specs on these tires and hope that they have somewhat the same performance on packed snow and ice as the Duratrac. I was surprised that they come in load rated D, how do they ride?

They ride great not noisy, you can here them but it's not loud at all. I went with a 35x12.5x15. C load and I love them better on wet and dry roads then my duratrac were, and amazing in mud and on rock

After driving for a few days on snow and ice, they are better the factory rubicon mt tires. And great in deep snow and slush. They are ok on ice but what tire is good on pure ice

So Duratracs are better for winter conditions is that what you're implying?

The Duratrac has more tread blocks, closer tread blocks, and a lot more siping. I would be real surprised to hear that the STT Pro performed better on the slick stuff.

The 37x12.50x17's ride great. Sidewalls seem to be a lot less stiff than the previous 37" Falkens I had, both are D load tires. Just finished a 17 hour move from Co to Tx on them, towing a boat with a bunch of extra crap stuffed everywhere to further load it down. Had them pumped up to 40psi the whole way, and the ride still didn't seem as stiff as the falkens at 28 psi.

I did not note how much weight was used to balance them, but they seem to have balanced well, and I have not felt any of the 'radial pull' that was talked about in another stt pro thread. So far, they get two thumbs up. (but I still have not run into any snow or ice...)

Thanks for the replies. I still haven't pulled the trigger on the STT Pro's. My Duratracs should have enough tread for the winter, but I will probably put on the Stt's for Moab next March....
