Default D44 Housing Question

Hello! I have ran into someone who is selling a D44 housing from a 2010 Rubi w/ 24k miles. It also has a riddler diff cover. Wants to sell it to me for 400 bucks... Worth it? Or would it be better to keep looking?

Is it a front or rear axle? Depending on the year of your JK (some early 2007s got Dana35s) you should already have a rear Dana 44. Therefore it would be a waste to spend 400 on an axle you already have.

Lol, sorry! I have a '12 Sport, and it's a front 44. I know there is alot of things I would need to make it install ready.. Like a carrier, axle shafts, etc. I know it would cost a bit to get everything finished and all, but I am just not knowledgable enough to figure out whether I should get it this way.. Or just keep saving, and buy a new one or a used one that is selling whole.

So basically $380 for an empty housing. With sleeves, gussets, chromoly (might as well go with upgraded parts), ARB (get a dependable selectable locker while gearing) and gearing. Your looking at atleast $1,500. So for atleast $2,000 you would have a complete axle(this doesn't include labor).

Provided the housing and C's aren't bent, good deal.

$400 is a fair price for a D44 housing in good shape. What is your ultimate plan with the housing though? The D44 front axle housing is no stronger than the D30. The diameters and tube wall thickness are exactly the same. I found this out after I picked one up If you're looking to beef up your front axle your not going to gain anything from just the housing. Also, if you are planning on running a selectable locker, it might be hard to find the Rubi e-locker used (I looked for months and didn't find one). I think they're around $1500 new. With the money it would take you to buy the locker, axle shafts, gears and install, it might be better to buy one that's complete, used and in good shape. I'm currently saving for a ProRock 44. It's a lot more money, but a good investment since I'm running 35s (soon 37s) and 4.5 inch long arm lift. Just depends on what you are planning to do with your jeep.

Well I'm building it up for rock crawling mostly, and I know the d30 is something I will want to replace. Ive been told the d44 is what I need. I was going to go with an Eaton Elocker ($775 approx)

Personally, yes I would love to have something like a ProRock, but those things have an extreme price tag.

Right now, I'm on 35" as well, and same as you.. Eventually will move up to 37s.. But i need something stronger than my d30 before I can do that. Plus, I refuse to get a locker for a 30. That just makes me shudder.
