Default Dana 30 to 44

Looking to make my next upgrade very soon. Dana 30 with 4.88s currently to a dana 44.

Dana crate axle from jeep?$$
Teraflex? $$$
Danatrac? $$$$

Rebuilding a junker is tough as i dont have a garage to work in and lack of precise knowledge to set it up. Experience with either would great. Thanks!

Don't forget the currie rockjock. It's priced pretty good also.

You're probably better off with either a PR44 or Tera44. A 'new' stock rubi axle would be around $2700, and would still need new gears. (And gussets, and then the alloy shafts and sleeves or truss that you don't want to waste money putting on your current d30). Doesn't make sense when you end up that close to aftermarket.

If you get lucky, you might find a used rubi44 that has already been upgraded.

I have never seen a Tera44, but my PR44 is great and I would recommend it.

This is where I found the pricing on the stock axle.

Don't have to do sleeves it will just bend at the housing. Gussets I would recommend and allow shafts aren't really necessary either. Depends on your wheeling needs. Pr44 are expensive but are good. I'm just not into the hype of them. I'm sure a tera44 or w rockjock 44 would work just as good for most people.

whats size tires are you running? how hard do you wheel? have you broke or had any issues on your d30? personally if im swapping an axle im not going to waste my time on a d44, but it depends on some variables of what your doing. Have you debated a d44 from someone that swapped in 60s or similar?

If you are sure you want to just go d44 i would find the best deal you can. If the best deal is a take off and you have the extra money to reinforce it i bet it will hold up just as good as a prorock or currie or teraflex, just wont have the caster correction.

35's and its a mild to moderate wheeler. Im trying to do it on cheap, so if i can find a stocker with 4.88s, that would be ideal. I priced out a built PR44 from northridge at just over 5k!! Teraflex i havent priced nor currie. Looking for stock rubi 44 is looking like the best choice.

If you beef up the D30 it would handle 35s just fine. If you wanted to run 5.13 gears is when people claim the pinion gear becomes the weak point. Im in the same boat but eventually plan on 37s and want lockers and so on.

it all depends how you wheel and tire/engine size. ive seen guys blow 4.56s in a d60. hell one guy did it 3 times in a month.

It's not for everyone, but I went with the Dynatrac pr d44 with ARB lockers and 5:15 gearing.

its a straight bolt on replacement and I saw that there having a sale for a version of it for like $3,400?

Supercharged 3.8, 4.88s and the jeep is somewhat light. Im easy on the skinny pedal too. No bashing around on rocks or high speed dunes. Maybe a mild dana 30 build would be easier for now.
