Default Down to two tire choices

Hello,
First post! Just recently picked up a 2016 Jeep Wrangler unlimited Sahara (rhino color) with max tow package 3.73 axle ratio. In the spring I am going to purchase the fuel anza D558 17x8.5 wheels with 4.5 back space. I am going to get the new Nitto ridge grappler tires (c rated) but cannot decide between 285/70/17 or 285/75/17???? It is my daily driver and I may take it to silver lake sand dunes to just cruise around with the kids. No rock crawling or hard off trails. My concern is I don't want to rub. I am leaning towards the 285/75/17 (33.8x11.2R17) I installed the Teraflex puck leveling kit.

Thank you
Steven

I have the exact same lift, but I strongly recommend 315/70/17. And regear to 4.56. You will love it. I did Duratracs. 285's may seem small, especially on an Unlimited. Here's mine as a thought for you

Thanks for the feed back. I forgot to mention that the 305/70/17 is on my radar

IMO if you do the 285's you'll end up shooting yourself in the foot later wanting a bigger size. BTW welcome to the forum.

I have to agree with the other guys. Go taller. We do a lot of wheel and tire packages for the JK's and they have lots of room in the fender well. Big jump over the TJ. Most guys back then ran a 4" lift to wheel 33's and now the JK's are 37's and stock flares. With the Pentastar and your gearing, 35's would be no problem to turn. Your suggestion of 285/75R17 is within reason. If you are in sand much you may want to spec a tire with more footprint.

Agree on this as well. We have nothing but good news about the Cooper STT PRO tires.

Just the tires now, on stock rims? Or you are waiting until spring and getting tires with the new rims?

If you are staying with stock rims for a while, a 33x10.50 is the recommendation you will find in the FAQ's. (stuck right to the top of this Modified area...)

With 4.5" backspace rims, you should fine up to 35x12.50 or so for tire contact inside the wheel wells. But they could still hit the center lip of the flares when stuffed. If so, trim the flares, go to flats, add bumpstop, you have options if you get contact there.

New tires and rims at the same time, in the spring = no more salt on the roads . Well I guess my tire debacle is now 305/70/17 and 315/70/17. Again I do have a tf leveling kit installed and don't want to rub when turning. When I go to the dunes i won't be bashing at all just concerned that if I catch a little whoop I'll rip a fender off. I'm partial to my fenders as they are painted the same as my body. Also I will probably never disco it. Thanks again everyone!
