Default Exhaust and Intake

I'm thinking about installing performance exhaust and air intake components.
I did some research and I'm questioning some of the claims of performance improvement gas mileage and horse power. My JK is my daily drive so I'd like to improve the MPG.

The exhaust systems (muffler tailpipe) I researched run from $300 up.
With about 4.5hp increase and mileage of 1.5% increase

The intake systems run from $225 up.
With about 6hp increase, mileage is talked about but never stated I would hope it would be about the same or better then the exhaust, 2% increase maybe.

Getting 10hp would be nice as the 202hp stock is really a mini-van engine, really it is.
Having 212hp is a big bump when thinking of driving in the mountains this summer.
Having about 3% better mileage or 12 miles per tank isn’t bad either.

Does anyone have any “real” numbers to put to these kinds of upgrades?

Sam.

Remember, these gains are in the 5000 rpm range. Who drives at 5000 rpm's??? You would be better served by getting a new set of gears for your axles. Gears will get HP to the rear wheels and it will be felt instantly, not at 5000 rpm's.

That was a great read the 2 MPG was a good thing to see but I wonder if the chip had more then a little to do with it. I'm still thinking about it.

these mods can give better mpg under the right conditions. Question though is are you going to increase HP and then drive slower and more cautious to save gas? dont think so

I put an Airaid intake with the TBS on last Saturday. I am getting a mile and a half better mpg according to the odometer reading. In addition I like the fact that it is stock quiet unless I get on it and the low end power is noticably better. It seems to hold about 2000 rpms when climbing a grade. Before it was hard to keep the rpms up and I would have to give it more throttle.
