Default Fat Tires

Are wide wheels the best way to get the fat tire look? Will the same tire on a 16x10 look two inches wider than on a 16x8?

I ordered cragar 16x10 sim, bead lock wheels because the smaller 16" diam, vs. 17" combined w/ 10 inch width vs. 9" width and smaller 4" B/S makes the tire and wheel combo appear bigger and fills up the wheel well. My friend and I both had TJs and we ran the same lift and 33" tires- but he ran a 16x8 and I had a 15x10", most people assumed I was running a bigger tire because of the perception. The wider rim does pull the tire out and make it appear more 'full".

Yeah, and you also get pulled over more for tire coverage (depending on your area). Joking aside, I was running 15x10 on my 2000 XJ with 33x12.5 and, sure, they looked nice and all but a 10-inch wide rim will also stretch your sidewalls a lot more and expose them more easily to roicks, sharp edges or whatnot.

Just my 2 cents and experience.

i wouldn't run a 10" wheel with less than a 14.5 inch tire. you won't have as much bulge, and may have trouble keeping a bead when you air down as well.
