fighting to keep my jeep on the road
 

i've got an unlimited, w/ 5.5" long arm rock krawler and 1"3/4 spacer w/ 37" bfg m/t. i also bought the beefier steering. i'm having a huge problem with my jeep floating all over the road, keeping it between the lines is a constant fight and has made my jeep less fun to drive. i understand it's not a corvette and i don't expect it to handle like one, BUT please give me some ideas as to how to fix this problem everything is tight, castor has been screwed with twice, wheels have been turned in a tiny,tiny bit, nothing so far has helped. please any ideas would be greatly appreciated, anyone else having this trouble? PLEASE HELP MAKE MY JEEP ROADWORTHY:naw::thinking:

i had a similar problem when i installed my rancho sport kit. i had a rough country steering stabilizer and it was getting sandwich between the bar linking front tires together and track bar. so i would rest against the steering link i guess it called and when you would turn it would let the steering come back by itself. when you try to correct the steering their would be a delay and then you would over correct it. so it was like if i was turning the steering side to side all the time.
i took off the rough country stab and put stock back on and now its fine.

what is your caster? I bet you need more.

Yep, 'caster has been screwed with twice' isn't really enough info :D

You don't mention if you did any of the work on it, or if it's a shop that isn't getting it right? You might browse this when you get a chance, the parts about setting Toe and Caster...

i wasen't doing the castor adjustment myself, they adjusted it this morning and i now can feel the front drive line, i don't know about castor camber stuff but i'm guessing they went to far one way or the other, i'm gonna have them put it back the way it was tomorrow because it diden't seem to help my flight problem and caused drive line vibratiion. it's not the stabelizer because i diden't have one, but added one trying to remedy the problem

Too much toe out can cause wandering, too much toe in, flightyness

Ask them what 3 caster settings were tried, and where it's at now. That'll give the folks here better info to help you out.

And the steering stabilizer won't remedy the problem, but may help mask it.

If you are getting drive line vibes, you have too much caster going on. They should not have tinkered with toe in/ out IMO if it drove well prior to lift. They should have been able to increase the caster and get the steering back to good I think.

If they have been screwing with toe in/out, caster, and now it drives worse and has DS vibes... I would find a new shop. Get some fresh eytes on it. good luck man.
