Front Drive Shaft Swap Question
 

08 JKU needs a new FDS. Can I take the FDS off my '12 JKUR and put it on the 08?

I'll then buy a new Coast FDS for the JKUR which will be getting a 2.5 lift in the near future.

I would contact "Tom Woods driveshafts". they should answer any questions you may have . Definitely look into their product line.. they might be expensive. but its one of those sayings. "You get what you pay for"

I believe the 2012 is a different length than previous models.

ummm, yeah, you get cheap chinese u-joints that i have seen fail time and time again for what you pay for :naw:

I've seen them all break. but the its the versatility and easiness to fix the shaft when your down and out. Just a tom woods fan

there's a difference between breaking while taking on a hard obstacle and failing after only 1000 miles or so doing a whole lot of nothing. this is something i have seen occur over the last 5 years where i have not seen it happen with other quality made u-joints like spicer or neapco.

also, we're talking about drive shafts here and unless i've missed something, there is absolutely NOTHING special about a wood shaft that makes it more versatile or easy to fix when you're down and out. :naw:

i've run multiple drive shaft makes over the years including custom made ones and i can tell you that for the most part, so long as it's balanced well, a drive shaft is a drive shaft with the only difference being in the u-joints used. if you're a fanboy of wood shafts who hasn't had any problems with your chinese made u-joints, great! more power to you. please note, i am not trying to steer anyone away from buying from your beloved shaft company, i'm just recommending that they upgrade the u-joints to a higher quality one - that's it.

They are all well respected companies, known for quality products, and advertisers on this site. Wouldn’t you think if Tom’s products were problematic, they would drop him as a vendor in a heartbeat?
