Gears
Currently I have a 4 door auto with 35's and 5:13 gears. I'm thinking about switching to a 4:56 do to highway driving and screaming down the freeway. Any thoughts. Im not going with a bigger tire anytime soon.
3.8L- Stick with 5.13's for the slushbox 4 speed auto
3.6L- 4.56 will probably serve you much better
I have 2 dr., 3.8l, auto, 5:13's with 315 Duratrac's and only turn 2500 rpm at 70mph! Not screaming at all.
I am assuming you have a 3.6l with 5speed auto. In which case you are correct. 4.56 is best suited.
You can go to a 37" tire cheaper than you can regear. Mastercraft MXT 37X12.5R17's are 270 each. If you bought 5 and had them installed, that would be around 1500 bucks. 50K tire, great performance on and off road, and they only weight 72 pounds each. (lighter than many 35's)
Regearing, you need the gears and install kits, then labor. Sounds like you've been down that road before already, so you know that's a 2K adventure.
Just thought i'd toss that out there.... Bumping up to a light weight 37 like that will accomplish the same thing, and you save 500 bucks and look much cooler.

He would probably ghave to invest that 500.00 into flat fenders to clear the 37s....but would still look cooler!!

His "what gears should I get" thread from a few years ago is what talked him into 5.13's. Obviously, that advice has not changed in the last couple years. But with flat roads and no headwinds and whatever else, maybe he can get away with lower rpm's/less hp/less torque. To most of us, the loss of power wouldn't be worth the cost of regearing again, but maybe he has a bunch of cash laying around. Who knows. Probably just looking for that one person out of a thousand (I know that ratio is too high, probably closer to one in five or ten thousand...
) who will tell him that they like the performance of a 3.8 auto with 35's and 4.56's.
