Hancook tires?
Anybody running Hancook mud tires? I can get 4 285x70 17, with road hazard mounted and bal. out the door for 880.00. Or 4 Pro Comp Extreme Mud Terrain same size and deal for 1180.00. This is my DD. Moderate wheeling at best. I would sure appreciate some opinions. Would you spend 300 more for top shelf tires or would you save 300 and go for the average tires?
Thanks for any help. |
Last night I went to discounttiredirect and read all the reviews for the Hankook and the Goodyear wrangler. Almost ever reviewer of the Hankook loved the tires, except 2, both of which had their tires come apart, and not while wheeling.
For Goodyear, there were no incidents of tire failures. Surely this is not particularly diffinitive data, maybe not even reliable, but it was enough to get me to buy the Goodyear's this morning. Kurt |
I would definitely recommend them....I've loved mine so far. They're not too loud on the road, they ride good, and traction seems to be pretty good off road too. Granted, they're not as aggressive as some other tires but they're plenty good enough for me.

Do a web browser search on Hankook Dynapro MT. Google came up with several evaluation articles you might be interested in.
I'm looking hard at the MT 295x75R16. The Hankook spec sheet lists as a 33x11.50. But it also lists the actual diameter as 33.6 inches. I am currently running the stock 32's. I would like to have something a little more than 33 inches but not 35's. I plan on matching these tires w/ 4.88 gears, (I have an auto trans). The thinner tires are also attractive. The Hankook MT's look to strike a good balance between an all out mud tire and an AT tire I don't want to run my stock aluminum 17's on the trail and ruin them. Jeep simply wants too much $$$ for replacement wheels. I happen to have a set of 16 inch black American Racing wheels I used on my old 02 Grand Cherokee for offroading. Wheels have 4 inch BS. I believe I paid $55 each for the wheels. But, I had to special order from Summit Racing due to the needed back spacing |
the pro comps are on sale wed 3-1 free so that would make them about the same cost as the hankooks
850 for 4 + mount balance . |
i sell the hancook tires, most everyone loves em. one of our employees runs em on his duramax, says they are every bit as good on road as the toyo m/t he ran before. however, he got 52k miles on his toyo, and his hancooks look about half worn out at 15k. this is a much heavier rig then a jk, obviously, so that may not effect you. i cant vouch for the pro comp at all, but i certainly can for the hancook.

I wrote a fairly through review of the Hankook MT RT03 last fall. I'd link to it but then the link would be busted by the mods. I'd tell you where it is but then I'd get banned. :naw:
I can tell you that if you google "Hankook MT RT03 review" it'll come up third in the listings. Freedom of speech. Its an amazing thing. :rotflmao2: |

I absolutly love them... but as someone did mention, after 2 seasons on my chevy, they are warn down...
Put them on both my JK and my chevy right around the same time and drove more KM's on the JK, the "new nubbies" are still on my wrangler tires! |
