Default Hardtop with NO Wiper?

Anyone ever take the wiper/motor assembly off the rear glass of the hardtop and just cover the hole with a plug?

Here is my thought. I bought a hard top to go on the Jeep. I have the wiring harness, but after driving around for a month with just the top I feel I don't care to even have that put on! Not that I'm lazy, but I find the motor housing for the wiper is HUGE and blocks a lot of my vision out the back glass.

Anyone else?

Someone correct me if im wrong but even when you remove that box the glass behind the box is not transparent so you would still have the visibility issue.

What's weird to me is that the main reason I wanted a hard top was because I could wash and wipe the back window when it gets road-grimed up (winter, rain, mud, dust, etc)

For me, if there wasn't a wiper assembly back there, I wouldn't even want the hard top...

Interesting points guys. My main reason for getting the hardtop was security and also taking just the top panels off. I live in Memphis (a good size city) so a softtop is easy to break into and provide less protection.

I just wanted a little more than a sheet of canvas above me! The rear glass is a HUGE plus over that plastic rear window. I rarely have an issue with road grime and all but now that you mention it.... maybe I should reconsider. I have the know how to install that harness my self. I just though, with that big blob blocking my vision out the back, which would I rather have?

So the glass might be colored behind the box? That sucks. If I remember right that plastic just pops right off easy! I'll pull it off at lunch and see if I can tell.

It is definitely black. You can see it from the outside and from looking under the plastic cover from the inside.

Crap..... oh well thanks for looking before I could. In that case I'll definately be wiring up the full deal. If I have to put up with a big blind spot I'm gonna make it work for me!

Thanks everyone!

If you want a little extra seeing room, re-wire your third brake light so that it can be seen through the hole in the middle of your spare, then cut the light tower off. That should add some usable sight with both the hard top and soft top on.

For even more visibility, remove your rear headrests. It did wonders for me.

Heh, I'm so used to using outside mirrors that it was never much of an issue, but the rear head rest idea is one that I considered but need it for an occasional passenger.
