Great info. It seems like there's positive and negative trade-offs where it's starting to sound like the way to eliminate the negative, is that it's now time to start working on that Hemi or LS Engine swap. Go with an aluminum block LS to lighten that mod load.

My 2 door with all my trail gear is 5800 lbs. I have tried to lighten it but I end up being the go to guy for spare parts and tools all the time...its just a trade off I am prepared to endure.

One point somebody made earlier about weight in the rear end not mattering I would strongly disagree with. If you talk to any of the "Buggy" guys they will tell you that weight in the rear is a huge problem going "UP" obstacles. Not having a spare hanging off the rear also can help when you are "Dismounting" obstacles (not banging it). That being said if you go without a spare have a plan in place to save yourself and not just relying on mooching a spare on the trail.

Carry lots of plugs as they can save your ass if you tear a sidewall..

5800 pounds, holy crap. I weighed my jeep in its current form, armor and all, at my last job on the warehouse scales. With my 220 pounds subtracted, it weighs 4500 pounds even.

A factory JK is pretty close to even distribution of weight from the factory, actually. Obviously, that is thrown out the window once you start modifying it, but bringing the spare tire in, or deleting it altogether eliminates and anchor on the back of your Jeep. When you bounce up a hill, all that weight hanging out physically pulls you down, and the force imparted on your Jeep counts for more more since it is further from the fulcrum which is basically your rear axle. It's the same principle as loading a trailer or a truck, you want the weight closer to the center.

For the record, I always roll with a spare, I feel having it is worth it and I have slashed a sidewall on the trail, twice actually. It really does make a big difference doing steep climbs though, especially if you're running 37s or 40s on beadlocks.

My spare is mounted on the floor in the back, directly over the axle. It takes up a lot of room in the 2 door but I only carry tools and a cooler.

2016 jkr with ~90lb tire/rim combo stock bumpers, no rear seat and completely empty with a full tank of gas nobody in the jeep. Gas tank skid and tranny skid and lower control arm skids and aev 2.5 lift. so you would think it would be fairly light...Not. pretty easy to see how this will be well over 5000 lbs with driver, passenger, tools, cooler etc.

Why is my JK so much lighter. I'm actually amazed. I'm wondering now if the scales were off at work lol. I'm almost 1k lighter than the next lightest jeep.

With that said, I do have steel bumpers , but I ordered all stubby and lightweight stuff. I have a manual, so the only skid I added is over the oil pan. Stock exhaust gone, smaller and lighter high tuck. Soft top. Sahara, so lighter Dana 30. Steel fenders and rails. 35s... 4500 pounds

I have found that to be true, at least with mine.

2008 JK Rubicon, half tank of fuel, nobody in it.

Used a scale under each tire, accurate to 10 lbs, current calibration.

Left front tire 1200 lbs.
Right front tire 1200 lbs.
Left rear tire 1100 lbs.
Right rear tire 1100 lbs.

Front axle total 2400 lbs.
Rear axle total 2200 lbs.

Total weight 4600 lbs.
