you broke the $2 plastic bushing on your shift cable because you didnt follow the proper procedures to shift. Get under your jeep, find the cable. You should be able to figure out how to manually push it into 2H down there. Then just drive to a dealership and buy the part.

Then stop muscle****ing it into gear lol

Search this forum for the bushing part number: 68064273AA
That will bring up lots of info and pictures.

What was wrong with the 4wd when you bought the Jeep?

Ok. I don't have photos right now and I'm on my mobile. So you are going to have to do some research yourself. But if your 4wd lever is moving but just floppy and not connected it can be an easy fix. That linkage is attached in two places. One is under the emergency brake center console. Pain to get to. The other is under the Jeep. Easy to get to. Have someone move the lever while you are under the Jeep and you will be able to see if the plastic piece has broken and the linkage is now free from the transfer case. This will make sense once you see it or do some googling. Mine failed on the trail. I was able to zip tie the linkage back on to the transfer case. And it worked great the whole weekend.

The actual plastic piece is $2.50. Of course I just told you that you can zip tie it in the meantime. This piece has been known to fail. Search the forum I am sure there is a write up. I know there are videos on YouTube.

Good luck. Get it fixed
Thank you so much!

The universal joint needs to be changed.

Wow I don't know what to say !
First mod to me is fix it.
Correct me if I'm wrong , but I thought all jeeps are 4 wheel drive.
You said when you bought it you were told not to put it in 4 wheel drive . Did you ask why ?
I'm guessing not.
Transfer case pooched.
Locked in neutral ( flat tow )
Good luck . I mean this in the best way.
What mod were you trying to do ?

Lmao. The green clip on mine broke so it's now held on with a zip tie. It's held for a couple months now.

Thanks you everyone who help. I put in the new transfer case bushing 68064273AA thought now I can't put it back to 2 wheel drive. If I push it hard again I think I'll break it again

you need to roll the jeep a bit while you move the lever. Kick it back or forward a bit with your foot out the door and it should slip in as you push.
