The thing to remember about regearing is that you are gaining the use of your upper gears again. For instance, you might be able to run 35's on 3.21's and get decent mileage, but then again you aren't going to be able to use 6th gear unless you are going down hill. (or use OD if you have an auto). When you regear, you are essentially gaining the use of all of your gears again, but may still end up in the same RPM range. i.e 5'th at 65 might be the same RPM as 6th as 65 with taller gears.

The challenging factor is that low RPM's does not always equate to better milage. For instance, when I am running up highway 160 to work it is a 60 MPH speed limit. If I go in OD (with rubi tires and 3.73's) I am running lower RPM's, but the motor lugs a lot to keep up the speed. I actually get better MPG by disabling the OD and letting the motor run at a higher RPM where it does not lug.

Good luck in whatever you go with, but personally, I feel like I need 4.10's just to keep things optimal right now, and will probably do 5.13's when I move up to 35's or 37's.

Thanks to all for responding. There was much wisdom in your comments. I have the 6 speed and honestly hardly ever off-road (I know... burn me at the stake) but I do want the capability for the few times I do take to the trails.
