Default Help with tires and maybe gear question

Hi guys,

I have a 08 X Wrangler, it came with 225/75/16 29" tall tires. My plan is not to raise the Jeep right now. I was looking at putting on 265/75/16 tires which are 31.64" tall tires. My Jeep has a 6-speed with the 3:21 gears. So I would be going from a 29" tire to almost a 32" tire.
My question is how will this work out from someone who has done this? Is this going to bog me down too much, would I need different gears for this tire?

If so then how big could I go without causing me issues. This will be mostly say 90% driven on roads with 10% off road. A 255/70/16 would keep me around 30 inches. Thanks for your help!

running 33's right now with 3.21's and 6-speed, like I just mentioned in another thread it's a little power deprived but not horrible at all...if your happy with your power right now and have no issues than you probably won't have any with your proposed tire selection....I am however about to regear to 4.10's to pick it back up a bit, but I also don't plan on running anything bigger than 33's...so if you figure you won't go taller than 33's (which some will say you will) and you don't have power issues right now then your probably going to be fine....and the dealership can flash your computer for 32's so you won't have to spend the money on the reprogrammers

i have to agree with blacknorthernjk...

its really not all bad. i run 33's with the 3.21 gears. i think with the auto it would be bad, but with the flexibility of the 6 speed, its manageable. i will say that as soon as i get some scratch ill be upgrading to a taller set of gears.

not to hijack, with a name like traumajunkie, you a paramedic or ER doc?

That would be pretty much like running the stock 255/75-17's (stock 32's) that I have with the same gear ratio. I wouldn't call it a powerhouse but it's mangeable.
