So is there any differences between the TJ dana 30 and the JK dana 30?

Im wondering if i could use TJ dana 30 axleshafts and carry them as spares and use them in the JK dana 30 since its a possible weak link and the axle u-joints seem to be known to explode even while normal driving on the road. Has anyone thought of this before. im just wondering the differences or if they will even fit.

Yea then best way to go would obviously upgrade to better stronger axle shafts or better yet just get rid of the dana 30. Its just peace of mind that if i do have breakage with dana 30 axleshafts or u-joints then i have extras to put in just to get me home and not leave me stranded on the trail they can be used as a temporary fix. I know...it doenst make any sense to replace a weak link with another weak link but its just a thought.

 

The JK 30 is a high pinion vs low pinion. The pinion on the JK is noticably thicker and the housing tubes are thicker as well. Otherwise everything else is prettly much the same. The carriers are about the same. The ring gears appear to be the same thickness.

Benefit of the High pinion increases the strength of the gear ring. That combined with the stronger pinion makes it a stronger overall axle with a weak link at the axle shaft as those are the same diameter as the TJ.
