Question How big can the tires get on an X???

32x11.50? I know the Rubi has 32's but they are not that wide. I think I might stay stock to avoid problems with the warranty.

i'm not sure about the biggest size you can stuff on a stock X... but as far as warranty is concerned, i don't think you have much to worry about. The only thing that will be voided is tire warranty... which is not covered by DC anyways. Even things like lift kits shouldn't be much of an issue... considering most of parts affected would be considered "wear and tear" parts. But i guess it all depends on your particular dealer, try and find a jeep friendly one and they will take care of you. Afterall, you're doin free advertiseing for them everytime you drive around in your modded JK right??

Without any lift, 32's max - trust me on this one. I just took photos and measurment of a rubicon yesterday to show all the areas that will rub if you go any larger. Need I say, there are a few areas that have about 1/2" to spare. I'll try to get these photos up soon.

Wayoflife, I posed this same question over on jeepforum and a gentlemen give me this response:
I've got BFG AT 285/75/17's on my new 07 Unimited X with NO lift. I've had no rubbing/tire clearance issues at all.

I then when into Tire Calculator and his are 33.8" & with my 16's height would be 32.8". I'm probably going to do something this week either (265 or 285's ) BFG AT's but still a little confused. Anymore input from you would be greatly appreciated THX.

What a tire says on the side walls is not the same as what its actual dimension are (usually much less). And, I should add that no two manufacturers of tires measure up the same either. For instance, a 33" BFG M/T hypothetically has an actual height of about 32.1" whereas a 33" TrXus M/T may have an actual height of about 32.5". Both have the exact same dimensions listed on the sidewalls but neither of them measure up to 33" nor do they measure up to the same height. If you don't believe me, go to a tire shop with a tape measure and test what I'm saying for yourself. Believe me, I've done it.

Having said all that, the Rubicon I saw the other day had its 32" BFG about 1/2" between the face of its tread and the plastic air dam at a full turn as show below:

Now, I'm not saying that a stated 33"+ tire couldn't fit without rubbing (as that would only be about 1/2" extra height total), but the actual dimensions of the tire make you buy will make a big difference.

I was talking with the editor of Off Road the other day, and according to him, originally the engineers at Jeep were pushing for a 35" tire on the rubicons, but they were shot down by the lawyers. Though I think in order to run 35's it would have needed some lift. This did make we wonder a bit becuase of the part of the body that sticks out into the rear wheel well. That thing to me looks like its going to make putting a larger tire on somewhat difficult without either cutting it or bending it in somehow, and i've yet to see any pictures of JKs with big tires flexing....

Wayoflife,......thx for all your input, I will be putting a 265/75/16 at 31.64" tall and I think safe. It's going to be the BFG T/A KM or Firestone Destination M/T. It'll make as big big change in the overall look of he JK. Again, thank you all for helping me big time..............

By the way, did you happen to follow up on this guys thread? If it's the same one I'm thinking of, he now states that he has rubbing and I should point out, exactly where I said it would

Wayoflife, Yes, he does have some rubbing, and right where you said would. I went a head and made the final decision on the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 265/75/16 & had them insalled yesterday. WoW what a change, more ground clearance, and better overall look(balance) to my JK. Dove around town & at speed on highway(70+), fabulous performer, I think winter & those great mountain logging roads are going to be a blast. Can't wait.............
