How much lift/tire is too much?
So I took my Rubicon unlimited offloading this last weekend in Sedona (awesome!)and found that it’s inadequate for what Id like to do. Originally I had wanted to do a 3” lift with 35” tires but now I see that might not suffice. Now I’m thinking 4-6” long arm with a 37” tire.
What I’m wondering is:
-How will this thing behave on the highway at speeds of say 80 to dare I say 100?
-Will it be able to go that fast?
-What will my fuel mileage look like city/hwy? Right now, stock, I average 16.5mpg city if I'm nice(45-50mph). On the way to Sedona 13mpg to 80-98mph. Normal HWY driving (60mph) will usually net me 18-20mpg I think.
This is a daily driver so as lame as it sounds, I'm trying to keep it practical. Just trying to figure out if a 4-6" lift with 37" tires is too much....
Sorry, the 2nd photo I accidently uploaded. Sweet ride though!

I drive my JK as a daily driver....I have 3.25" of lift up front and 4.25" in the back with 35's....In my opinion anything bigger than this would be TOO big for a daily driver. I can cruise on the highway at 75 no problem but I can't imagine being several inches higher and a bigger tire.
If you want to keep the performance of the Jeep up to par you will need to install gears for sure.
Here's 2 pics of my set-up

You've got to pay to play. At 6" you're spending serious money to do a lift right. And only a fool would half-ass a 6" lift. If you've got the money to put everything you need into the lift and make sure the job is done right, the sky's the limit.
I'd look real hard at something like ORE's 2.5" Enforcer kit, though. You can fit 37s with it and it's a beautiful kit that won't completely demolish your bank account.

Here's a picture I took a week or so ago. I was after about 3/4 of a tank doing 55-60mph pussy footing it. Some will say I faked this so think what you want.
On the way to Sedona everyone seems to do 80-100mph. Crazy? Probably. I'm used to drivng my Z06 so I just felt at home doing 100... That and I wanted to top it out. Thinking about it now I feel like I cheated death.
Thanks for the info guys! Keep it coming, suggestions too.

I wasn't sure a JK would even DO 100... And I certainly wouldn't try it. Like you, I have another car that's more suited for that kind of driving (BMW M). I get a little nervous in the JK even getting up to 80...

I have a Rock Krawler 5.5in lift with 37s and 5.38 gears. I it rides great, but I have never gone over 85mph. Looking at 13-15 mpg depending on hills. If you want a lift in the 4-6 in range look at Teraflex, Rock Krawler, or Offroad Evolution IMO. There are extras you will want to look at as well such as gears, new driveshafts, and reinforcing the front axle with gussets and/or sleeves.
Jeep are not meant to fly on the highway. Driving my Jeep is a relaxing thing. Put on cruise at 65-70 and enjoy the ride.
