How will 4.88's effect me?

I have 3.73's running 33's and an added front bumper and winch. My rear bumper i ordered wont be shipped for another month so i cancelled my order and think im gonna get 4.88 yukon gears. Just wondering what i can expect.................better or worse gas? Better offroad? better driving on road?

Well, you can expect your RPM to be higher at any given speed/gear ration than before by ~ 23.5%.

So if a particular combination had you cruising along at 2,500 RPM with your 3.73's, your RPM would rise to ~ 3,088 RPM with the 4.88's.

This might be like being one gear lower than you were before in seat of the pants feel, etc.

(Like if you would have down shifted one gear before, now, its like you already did it...

...if you DIDN'T want to have already down shifted, well, you did already, etc...and you might need to UP shift for those, Etc...)

THAT is what you can expect.

:D

Yep!

The driveability will go way up, but your MPG will suffer a bit.

I thought I had seen some people say thier MPG improve somewhat when gearing to say 4.88's from a 3.73. I thought it was something about using the power more effectively.
The reason I ask is I am considering this as well...I am only getting 13mpg right now and that is with my superchips...

running 4.88's for a week now. had 3.21's so its night and day as far as power. never use a full tank of gas without wheeling so i don't know about mileage.
