I was under the impression that you WOULD need to reconnect the Hypertech. It will read the firmware version and, if it does not have the latest and greatest it will just tell the owner to disconnect it, reconnect it to a computer so that it can report the firmware version to Hypertech. From there Hypertech will either have or develop a compatible version, then e-mail the owner to reconnect the Hypertech. This may take up to a few weeks. After that, the Hypertech is okay to program the owner's vehicle. If you think about it, every time there's a recall that involves the firmware, the Hypertech must be replaced if I understand what Planman is saying.

However, before I connect it up, I would talk/e-mail Hypertech and ask them if they programmer may have caused the PCM failure. They may say they'd like to replace it ... just in case.

I think mark has a good idea. They might want to replace the hypertech unit just to make sure that it wasn't that, that cause the problems with the pcm. It really wouldn't be good if you plugged it back in and it fried the new pcm!!!

Since I got mine, I have flashed, reflashed, returned to stock, etc. a dozen times. I haven't had a problem. That being said, and speaking with a long history of modifying ECUs primarily in Hondas, but in lots of other vehicles as well, these things happen. I know that doesn't make you feel much better, but anytime you change firmware, i.e. a flash, you run the risk of bricking your computer. Once it is bricked the bad news is that it is exactly what it sounds like, a worthless brick and not a computer. The good news is that if you can't read it, neither can anyone else, or they won't take the time, effort, or money, required to do so, which means the dealership should cover it under warranty as long as you don't mention anything about trying to program it. Lots of things can cause the programming to go wrong, from a bad programmer to some kind of interruption in the programming, like unplugging it early or even a power spike. Hate to say it but it is a risk you take. Call up Hypertech and see what they have to say about getting you a new programmer and give it another try.

I am just hoping that the dealer gets the pcm tomorrow cause damn it I miss my jeep and were going to play in the snow sat.

Ok so after the dealer giving me bullshishhhh saying they dont know why its taking so long to get the part 10 days later they get it in and do the pcm. ok covered good. Now as for hypertech they had me mail the programmer back to them and I did and called them on the 5th and they said they were closed over the holidays and they were appareantly updating the programmer there. I finally get it back last friday the 9th. So I plug it into the jeep and it says to updated it on the internet. So I go in to do that and when I pull it up says it cant be updated. I am getting frustrated I havent had time to call them some health issues but I am going to try to today when I get home from work.
