Hypertech or AEV ProCal Module??
I went with the ARV Procal....REAL easy to use, REAL fast!! I went with this bc most of the ppl with hypertech isn't reporting much different feel with hp/tq....So that wasnt enough to justify the extra money!! I have an auto with 285 and now it rides and 70-75 NO problem on the interstate, you can diff tell the difference with the shift points "corrected"(change)!!
Put some other bolt on performance enhancers on your JK and with the Hypertech Max Energy you're really left with an expensive AEV ProCal. Had I had it to do over again, I definitely would have waited for the ProCal and ran with the Jet Stage II programmer. Much more intake and exhaust friendly.
It's also funny that Hypertech doesn't feel any need to take a look at their program for the JK for after market add ons, but evaluated 10 popular cold air intakes for mustangs. I guess it's nice not to have much competition in the JK market and they seem to be milking it for all it's worth.

I'm not sure of their intentions, but the hypertech does update the firmware. I think the laws of supply and demand are what dictate the resources put into this, there are certainly more mustangs on the road then JK model jeeps. Of course we are now on year three for the model, and the new platform, (3.8l ) so we should see more improvements everyday.
Regarding the difference between the two.
The Hypertech reprograms your engines parameter tables for better performance. You might not "feel" it so much, but it is there.
The AEV Procal unit adjusts "selectable" features. Thats all. It doesn't reprogram or change anything about the engine.
Now those two points in relation to the OP's question leave these results.
It's up to what you want to accomplish as with any modification. Hypertech is a better tuned, better running engine and corrected tires/gears.
AEV Procal is user features customized, and corrected tires/gears.
I really enjoyed my Hypertech, but have to use the AEV because once I put the supercharger on, I can no longer run the performance settings of the Hypertech. But I need to have the tires/gears set correctly.
Both units enable the auto to shift correctly IF you are NOT running stock.
Hope this helps...along with the other insightful posts in this thread.

Hypertech gets there lunch eaten on just about every last platform they run on. If they compete against Diablo or Superchips on a given platform, they lose. The JK with a captured audience, modest if any performance gains and seemingly an unwillingness to set targets for the more than half of their users with exhaust and intake upgrades. Simply stated by Hypertech's management was "This isn't something we need to tackle".
Between the AEV and the Hypertech Max Energy, Both:
- Read and clear DTCs
- Change Gear Ratios
- Change Tire Size
- TPMS adjust (Hypertech says "Maybe" in the near future)
- Daytime running lamps (not high on my priority)
- "one touch" turn signals (mine came from the factory that way)
- Temporary idle speed increase (cool feature!)
- Steering centering option (see Aeroforce gauge below)
- Change power settings - premium and regular fuel settings
- Change default fan turn-on temp
- 50+ engine parameters to monitor (including steering centering)
- High and low speed fan control
- Custom gauge inputs
- ESP Disable (worth every penny)

Thank you. That is a great comparison statement there. I totally agree!
Edit: Oh hell yeah... the aeroforce gauge is awesome. Just installed mine. Which platform did you use? It gives three options as Platform 1, Platform 2, Platform 3

Just a small footnote to add, there is a little confusion I think in this thread - some people when talking about HyperTech are referring to the AccuPro whereas others are referring to the Max Energy.
Well I ordered the AEV from quadratec and it's back ordered
But as soon as I get it I'll post results. Mainly I just want my speedo corrected and the shift points better. Also want to lower my air pressure warning. And the higher idle for winching would be awesome. I don't care about HP or anything, the JK is efficient enough for me and the power is fine for crawling.
