The superchips has more features.

Hypertech is adding new features, it is in the works.

At the end of the day it is the whole "ford v. chevy" argument as to which is better.

I prefer Hypertech because of the customer service. It is EXCEPTIONAL. I don't get kick backs from them, I paid full price and would do it again.

Good performance, more snappy throttle response and shifts.

I have over 35,000 miles on my Hypertech and it has worked GREAT.

I do look forward to their updating it with new features that are in the works, such as TPMS changing, etc.

Now if I could just get it to load that feature...
I'm also unable to get that feature to load on my Superchips.
I just got an email from Superchips saying that this is a known problem with the 2009's. No comment on when it would be resolved though.

The November 09 issue of JP magazine had a shoot=out between the tuning chips. Here are the differences per the article.
________________SUPERCHIP ;.............................. HYPERTECH

MPG gain ....... 7.1%;........................................7.1%
HP gain......... 18 ;.................................. .........11
Torque.......... 24; ........................................... 24
0-60 time......... -0.65 sec; ..................................-0.31 sec (from stock)
Lckers in4HI....... yes;..........................................no
TPMS adjust ........ yes ;.........................................no
modes.............. 87, 91,93 octane;........................87, 91
tow, fuel economy
view data in
real time yes;.............................................n o

They went on to say that the Superchip gave the best "seat-of-the-pants" power gain out of all the tuning modalities. Bear in mind this article was written for the 11/09 issue, and Hypertech may have updated their chip. Hope this helps. I plan on getting the Superchip as soon as the overtime comes in

I have the hyper tech I noticed an increase in power. Not great but it was noticeable. I also installed an air aid cold air intake. Fuel economy verdict ID still out

It asks only three Q's. Fuel type, tire size and fan speed. Somehow that is enough info to reprogram???

Question

Just bought a 08 unlimited X and went from stock wheels/tires to SkyJacker 2 1/2" lift with ProComp 18x9 and Nitto 35's Trail Grapplers. Have you guys using the Superchip, doing the same type of mods get back some of the power you lost when going with the bigger tires/wheels and lift? I know the best way is regearing but at this point that is not a option.

08 Wrangler Unlimited w/auto 3.73 gears

OD off and a Flashpaq you will be able to get away from transmission hunting. More than anything, this will help with efficiency. In round numbers the SC Flashpaq is going to deliver a 10% in power from the engine, while a 5.13 gear set isn't going to make more power it's just going to deliver more of what's available to the wheels at a higher rpm. What 5.13s will deliver is over a 35% increase in power available at cruise speeds, and return full use of OD. That's a number too high for the SC to provide despite making more power under the hood.

I think the bigger glaring item in this debate is the price, and no one has mentioned it yet.

Superchips $305 vs. Hypertech $379

I just don't understand the price difference. It appears that Superchips offers more features for less money. I could see if Hypertech offered more to justify their 25% price increase over Superchips, but so far I am just not seeing it.

Based upon actual users opinions, it appears that Superchips is the preferred choice and it cost 25% less. I think Hypertech needs to step up their game and lower their price, otherwise, it just does not make sense to buy a Hypertech.

There's more to a product than just a feature-by-feature comparison. My vote is for Hypertech. That said, I have no experience with Superchips.

Hypertech was the first on the scene for the JK and they really test their product. Additionally, they work within tolerances to avoid you having problems later on. Some tuners (I've heard for example of the Bully Dog) will pull all they can get which can lead to mechanical problems later.

I encourage the OP to call each company and talk to a representative about their products and how they're tested. You're reprogramming the computer on your JK that runs practically everything. Do you want it right or do you want it cheap?

Also keep in mind who was the only company to respond in this thread.

Great advice I could not have said it better, its never our goal to make the most horspower.

Hypertech contact number for tech info 800-532-3351 if you want to speak with me ext.1435

They also have a 888 number under CONTACT US on the bottom of their webpage. I don't want to step on toes by posting.
