If you are looking for 35s or 37s....here is what I found.
 

Guys... it was time for me to replace my 37's (4th set of tires on my JKU with 140k miles) and was cringing at the $2k that I knew it would cost. However a quick google search turned up a few crazy deals on 33's, 35's and 37's.

I bought 4 of the RADAR 37x13.5x20 for just over $1k shipped to my door. Yes these are not one of the name brands, but my last set of 35's were the Gladiators and those tire balanced for me with almost no weight, and were not loud and gave me about 40k miles. Granted I don't do as much wheeling as I used to, but still there were a good tire, especially when they are almost half the price of the name brands.

I got a set of 35's which were (5) BFG KO2's 315/70/R17's for $1270 which included shipping.

Total Cost(5): $1270

I compared that to the Radar Renegade 7 35/12.5/R17

Price per tire:$174.92
Shipping per tire: $54.82

Price per tire with shipping $229.74
Total Cost(5): $1148.70

Price per tire difference: $24.26 (less)
Total Price difference: $121.30 (less)

Conclusion: Not much of a savings to consider not taking a top rated tire like the BFG TA KO2.

I then looked at their price of the 315/70/R17 BFG TA KO2's that I got.
Price per tire with "Free" shipping=$292.97
Total Cost(5): $1464.85

Price per tire difference: $38.97 (More)
Total Price difference: $194.85 (More)

Yeah, their shipping is steep. But, I used that particular site to get a price-match at a local no-name shop a few years back. Then asked discount tire to match the local price ...

So from your experience they're typically lowered priced than DTD listed website prices and Tirerack.com?

I'll be shopping for some tires for my son's Patriot 4x4 come fall, so trying to find a good price on something decent.

Yeah, several of these less well known online sites (Simpletire, Onlinetires, etc) can have some great prices. Not always, but sometimes. And with the caveat that I was looking at pre-shipped prices, and doing the legwork hoping to find a local pricematch to save me some money. (I figured that if people living near those shops got tires that cheap, maybe I'd get lucky and someone local to me could get them also. :D )

Just be sure to add in the mounting, balancing, warranty certificates, whatever else so it's an apples to apples comparison.

And I'll admit that the last two sets I purchased, I couldn't find a great deal online through any of these places for the specific tires I wanted, so went with DTD's price, with forum discount and 5 tire discount. Or maybe it was a 5 rim discount? And a mfg rebate. And ...
