Question Just shocks (OME) install

I'm planning to install some OME shocks this weekend. Sorry for yet another shock question, but all the write-ups seem to be full lift kit installs and this is simpler.

Big question: can this be done without jacking the Jeep, in either the front or rear? It sort of looks like it can, but I suspect there's something I'm missing.

If I DO have to jack the Jeep, can I leave the wheels on, or do they have to come off too?

Thanks much, gentlemen (and ladies).

It can be done without jacking up the Jeep or taking the wheels off. I will tell you from personal experience though you will find it much easier if you take the wheels off (which requires jacking).

Can I ask what makes jacking it so much easier? And is that equally true for the front and the rear? Thanks again.

i just installed my OME LT's a couple weeks ago, didnt use a jack or anything and i didnt have any issues, took me about an hr 1/2 to remove the old ones (plus shock extensions) and put the new ones in...it really isn't necessary at all to jack it up....IMO

How fast can you lift and remove the wheel? Weigh that against performing the install on your back with limited access.

FYI - I've swapped out shocks without lifting or removing a wheel.

If you don't want to remove the wheels turn the wheels full right when doing the driver side and full left when doing the passenger side. This will give you a little more room between the tire and shock to work. Jacking or not on the rear really won't make any difference.

Thanks everybody. The rears are on and y'all are right: I really can't see any reason to jack in order to do the rears. Fronts go on tomorrow. I don't have a good jack or access to a lift, so I'll be doing those from my back, too.

The stock X shocks are a joke compared to the OMEs. The fitment of the OMEs wasn't perfect, though. I had to shave the rubber on the lower mounting point a bit with a Dremel to get the driver's rear to fit.

Did you extend your brake lines and bump stops?

Nope, because there's no lift. This is just shocks.
