Keep getting P0456 (Small Evap Leak) error code?
 

I put on a evap canister relocation kit when I first bought the Jeep, new. Now I get an intermittant, once a month or so error code P0456 (small evap leak). Not a big deal but mildly annoying. Any ideas on how to remedy?

i've gotten this a few times, and each time it was because my gas cap wasn't on tight enough.

Gas cap or evap canister/plumbing. Check plumbing for loose connections/cracked or torn hoses. Check the canister for cracks or damage.

Recently had a similar issue with my wife's Dodge Ram, but it was a "Evap Large Leak" code. Had a HUGE crack in the evap canister.

Did you get this soon after relocating or has it been a while?

mine was in the evap plumbing.

I had mine relocated for months without problem and then the problem showed up. It's weird for sure. Any more ideas? Are gas caps a common cause?

You might also check for the small O-ring on the white adapter that connects one of the hoses to the evaporative canister. Remove the adapter from the canister and ensure that the )-ring is not buggered up. Might even try a little silicon lube on it to ensure it's staying sealed.

Strange coincidence, I relocated my evap 3 years ago and I just got that same code 2 days ago. I checked all the plumbing and the evap itself with an ultrasonic leak detector (don't ask why I have one) and found none so I cleared the code and chalked it up to the gas cap. It's only been 2 days but it hasn't come back.

Chewie above went to help me re-locate the evap back in the summer and found that one of the lines was cracked off at the spout.. never got a code. We relocated it, glued the spout back together. Checked a few days later and the glue had separated, so I re-glued again and has been solid since then.
Now this morning after starting up I get the code..

Read in another post about the conditions the system runs its monitor checkup under both using outside temp and gas tank fill level as factors. Had almost exact 1/4 tank this morning.. Sounds stupid, but I wonder if these things are so sensitive and picky that my 1/4 tank and the colder mornings we have in Mass right now triggered it? :thinking:
For now I cleared the code and we'll see what happens...

I just had the same code come up on mine about two weeks ago. Turned out to be the o-ring on the gas cap! It was dry rotted & worn a bit. Replaced the entire cap with a new one ($20), cleared the code & it hasn't been back since!
