Lift Problems
Dug an old one up. I discovered I had the notorious FT Trackbar "tick" today. Took the upper bushings apart and greased the crap out of 'em, but noticed something. I don't think the "tick" is coming from the actual composite bushing at all. Looks to me that the inner metal sleeve is the culprit, not around it, but at the ends. I noticed that where the sleeve was contacting the Jeep frame (inside the mount), it was wearing a nice circular ring into the mount. Looks like the ticking noise is coming from that sleeve trying to turn against the inside of the mount (metal on metal). When you torque the mounting bolt the pressure is being applied between the sleeve and the mounting bracket. 125 ft. lbs. which is what is recommended, wasn't enough for mine. I greased the area between the bracket and the sleeve, installed the trackbar, and tourqued it to 160 ft. lbs which probably siezed the sleeve against the bracket, but it is now quiet.
So, after looking at the OEM bar, and the FT bar, it looks to me anyway, that if a thicker walled sleeve was used (like on the OEM bar) that may solve the issue because it would have more contact area against the bracket when torqued, and not want to slip inside the mount, causing the "tick". Tell me if that makes sense?
