Lift and still under warranty
I have heard that you can lift up tp 3" and still be covered under the factory warrenty... Can anyone confirm this? It doesn't sound right to me but I was curious. I do know the tecnicalities of of aftermarket mods.
You will get a different amount of lift from every dealer/salesman you speak with. Bottom line is your warranty could be void on certain parts if they can prove the lift caused the damage. For instance 37" tires breaking an axle, etc. With that said, different dealers have different rules they follow and some are more lift friendly than others.
WOL had new gears installed. Sometime after that he started having problems with his rear lockers. One dealership wouldn't help him out saying the new gears were causing the problem, but another dealer replaced his lockers for him under warranty.

The dealer I bought my jeep from told me that my warranty would be voided if a dealer didn't do the install. Funny, how they also sold lift kits.
I would agree with Rubimon; I bet busted drive shafts and axles area no go but other stuff will still be covered.

HI Steve
I have done extensive asking around about your question and believe you will be ok with the 2.5 inch lift – one of my techs says a body lift will not effect the warranty but a suspension lift might-
Your service advisor Mike Mayer – tel 256-864-7452 says that you will not void your warranty unless the lift is responsible for causing damage to the suspension – in which case your engine etc is covered but the broken suspension component related to the lift would not be covered –
If I get more I will update you

I justed wanted to let you know what I got from the dealer.

Legally, a manufacturer cannot void the warranty on a vehicle due to an aftermarket part unless they can prove that the aftermarket part caused or contributed to the failure in the vehicle.
Many (most) dealerships are resistant to maintaining a vehicle with aftermarket equipment. They can and will charge you additional labor, beyond that covered by warranty, if a repair required that they remove non-factory (not stock) parts and such.
The key is finding a dealer who is aftermarket/modification friendly.
There is no magic lift height or anything like that which will void the warranty automatically.
Please remember that any modification can change the way the vehicle works and deviate it from how it was designed to work. I cannot express how many lifted Jeep vehicles we get back with noises and such that "were there" before the lift or modification was made. Then after our technicians find the real problem (very often caused by the modification) people are not real happy to find out they are going to be paying for the inspection labor out of pocket.
Again, I cannot stress enough the importance of finding a dealership with a Service Department that is modification friendly. Remeber that just because they sell lifted Jeeps does not make them mod friendly. Many times the sales departments source those vehicles out.

As Don-A-Vee wrote, this is entirely subjective between some dealerships... some Service Departments are filled with Jeep owners who build and wheels Jeeps themselves, while others are like mine - strictly by-the-book to cover their own butts...
Obviously checking with your/a dealer is best.As far as the lift height,I think they mention 3" not voiding the warranty may be due to most if not all 3" susp lifts dont require driveline mods.
