Default long travel shocks?

i have a 3.5" lift i hear people saying they have 10" of shock travel . is there a certain lift height required for these shocks or can i just install long travel shocks? any other upgrading must be done when long travel shocks are installed?

the biggest problem with installing a shock that is too long is that the lenght of shaft exposed on a level surface may not be enough to allow for up travel or compression and you will most likely end up bottoming them out. this can provide a very harsh ride, will ultimately cause your shocks to fail and can even result in the breaking of factory mounts.
