I am new to jeeps. I have a 14 2dr jk (currently on 33s) and looking to run 35s as best of both worlds daily/offroad (planning to get into it as a hobby get some patches have some fun. Im also planning to do most of the build myself). So, im planning my build.
I have decided on 2.5 MC gamechanger w/rocksport shocks 315/12.5/17 BFGs
I know I will need a new driveshaft, and honestly its a good thing since my current ujoint is not in best shape. Do you folks have reccomendations on a good new driveshaft for 2 door ?
i will also need new bumpers for larger tire and winch, but im pretty comfortable with picking those out.
My main issue aside from picking out the right driveshaft is order of upgrades. I can swing liftkit and the driveshaft in one go (-4k ish), but I would have to wait a few months after to get the tires. I would also then have to wait to get the bumpers which will mess with my weight distribution and ccaster. I know I have some time to regear and i know i will need some support gussets welded on, but those dont seem to be too pricey. Realistically budget wise i could put away 500ish a month for upgrades.
What would you do if you were me? Any help or tips in this process is appreciated. If yall have any discount codes or ideas id love to hear about them as well
I would buy the lift and DS now. Put it in the garage. When you can buy the tires do the lift, tires, DS, and gears all at once. If you don't mind it looking kind of funky do the lift first, but I would just wait. As for bumpers, I would get new ones, but me personally I wouldn't get a rear one with a tire carrier. I don't suggest carrying the spare around. Myself and many guys I know don't anymore. If you go wheeling hopefully a friend can stick it on a trailer for you. Or you fold the rear seats down and stick it in the back. That's just me though. I haven't seen a flat tire in a long time (on the road that is - for a Jeep). If you feel the need to carry the spare, get a Teraflex tailgate carrier.
I drove my sport about 2 years on MC 2.5” lift with stock driveshaft with no problem. I had it in the shop for an alignment when they pointed out the Rzeppa was tearing. Teraflex, I think makes a high angle Rzeppa that you can replace if you want to save some scratch for now. It’s not cheap by any means but isn’t the cost of a new driveshaft. I bought an Adam’s driveshaft, the one you should be greasing every 3k miles. I don’t recommend getting the greasable one because the double cardan is a royal pain in my ass to grease with a needle fitting. I disconnect it from the transfer case every time to get grease into the double cardan. Lesson learned. I’d rather have to change U-joints on the bench, rather than scurrying on my back to grease that dc. I’m happy with the Adams performance overall.

Thanks for reply! Ill consider going without a 5th, although to be honest, i do like the look. Just to confirm, winch weight and lack of weight on the back without a tire would affect the caster angle? Would i need to worry about that after the lift kit install? Also do you happen to have any reccomendations for a 2door 2.5 in lift driveshaft?
I have a MC 2.5" lift with 33s. Look at my Avatar, I think it looks ok.
unfortunately that is way too small for me to see, especially on my phone. But I think ill be ok for a few months with a lift on 33s. ill definitely have to wait on regear as well since its around 2k from what ive been reading. Speaking of regearing - how mandatory is it? I keep seeing that it will bring performance back to stock but im not sure what that means. Will i be damaging my jeep running on stock gears if i go for 35s a few months after lift and ds install and then drive for another few months before regearing?
Thanks for the information folks, im just trying to learn as much as i can.

I'm a little late to the party, but I agree here. Slapping lift on with 33s or waiting will just be subjective to taste on appearance. Really not a big deal either way. Regear can wait. Also agree to not do a rear bumper with a carrier. If you are set on carrying a spare around do a quality hinge carrier for the tailgate.

You will sit high with that lift until you get the weight of the bumpers and winch on it making the drive line angles even worse. If you are not wheeling the jeep then I would not be so concerned about the drive shaft , but it will at some point fail. Check your local drive line shops for driveshafts, sometimes you can get better pricing and service when going local. Driveshafts are all basically the same parts just put together. How well a company balances them is the important thing.
