Is my transfer case shot?

So I had problems with my jeep popping out of 4wd drive on inclines and had a bad front u joint I replaced, but now there is play in the output flange from the transfer case going to the front drive shaft. It's enough I can move it up by hand and hear a small thunk inside the case. This is without the driveshaft installed. I also have a rattle only when I accelerate that seems to keep getting worse and I can attribute it to any exhaust components.

Mine does the same, how much play do you have?

GulfCoastJeeper 03-25-2014 12:03 PM

1 or 2mm but I can hear it kinda clunk

GulfCoastJeeper 03-25-2014 12:06 PM

That's up and down, I just tried pulling it back and forth and it's worse in that direction

The in and out play is way worse.

It's normal to have play. Even a little in and out play when torqued is ok. Torque it up to 160 ft lbs and see how the yoke feels.

Ok. I'm going to torque it down again and see. Wish me luck.
