Default Necessary Skid Plates

I'm thinking of really protecting the underneath of my JK considering it looks as if many important components aren't fully protected, and I've already beat up quite a bit of my belly skid.

I'm already looking into a skid plate for my oil pan (I'm surprised the makers didn't protect that, it's so...exposed).

Questions:

1.) Do you personally have any upgraded skid plates? Or are you just rock'n the facotry ones.

2.) In general, what would be some other primary areas to consider if going to purchase solid skid plates?

Thanks!

i have none and the skids that come factory are more than enough to protect your jeep.

the only one that jeep didn't provide - an oil pan skid. this is on my list of things to get.

agreed. i was only thinking in terms of skids but if you include rocker guards in the mix, these should be first as they will get the most work.

It wouldn't hurt to skid or relocate the evap can. I've read about a lot of problems with that.

yeah, better to relocate that then skid it. a skid just makes it easier for rocks to catch it and from experience, that's the real problem - not hitting it but pulling it off.

I would only disagree if you have a Rubicon (I guess some of the 09s can be fitted with the swaybar disconnect???).

I saw the plastic air dam protecting my swaybar disconnect and decided I needed something more!

Other than that, I think the factory skids will do just fine!

If you get into any kind of rocks your gas tank skid isn't going to cut it. Mine took some serious abuse since it can't be much more than 1/10" metal so that was the first thing that needed protecting on my 08 Rubicon.

really? i've been hammering on my factory gas tank skid plate almost every other weekend for over 2 years now wheeling in places like moab, the rubicon and johnson valley and while it doesn't look pretty, it's held up just fine. in fact, when i dropped the gas tank to install my FT long arm kit, i pulled the plastic cell out to give it a thorough once over and it was totally intact. again, going back to the original question of "necessary", a new replacement gas tank skid is clearly not.
